Default Newbie with a cake question

Hi!

I am new here. I started SBD on Monday the 19th and am doing well so far. I am starting on Phase 1, but I was wondering if anyone had a good dessert substitute/recipe for double chocolate cake in Phase 1?
I guess what I am looking for is something chocolate and cake-like to help squash my craving.

Thanks for any help!

Misty

I think it would be hard to make cake and stick to the 100 calories of sweets, but maybe someone here is way smarter than I am. I like to make chocolate smoothies w/ ricotta. Or better yet, I do the ricotta cream with vanilla and coconut (tastes like frosting!) when I'm I need a sweet fix. I also tried a ricotta cream with some coconut, vanilla extract and lime juice, and it kind of tasted like key lime pie filling. The cravings will start to go away after a week or two, if you don't try to feed them. (Or so I've found.) I was able to easily resist eating brownies, cake, scones, muffins and other goodies yesterday in an all day meeting... no cravings at all. But when I started two weeks ago, all I could think of was sugar.

So hang in there... maybe some of the other smarties around here will be able to think of some more solutions for you.

You could try a chocolate flax muffin

2 tbls flax (ground)
2 packets splenda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp coco powder
1 egg

mix all and microwave for 50 seconds

I am not sure if this is SBD friendly, but I thought I would post it anyway as ya'll can probably work it out

In a microwave safe bowl (something deeper, like a cereal bowl), combine 1.5tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder with 2 tsp of your sweetner of choice. Once this is combined, add an egg and mix until a batter forms (it takes a bit). Drop a pat of butter in the middle. Microwave for 45 seconds or so. The outside will be firm like a cake, and the center gooey.

Recipe totals:
carbs (net) 2.1
protein: 7.9
fat: 10.1
calories: 128

If you left the butter out (for a cakelike texture throughout..might need a few extra seconds in the microwave), you'd be just under 100.

Butter is a no no on South Beach, so that's why it's a little hard to get that cake kind of taste.

Hmm.. you can also use olive oil or coconut oil in this recipe. Maybe that would work?

and the butter here is only if you want the center like a molton chocolate cake, otherwise you just leave it out

Im thinking you may be able to make a chocolate ricotta cake that may do the trick.

I'm going to try this later:

1 cup ricotta
1 egg
1 tsp Just Like Sugar (or whatever 0 cal sweetener you use to taste)
1 TBSP cocoa powder

Spray ramekins with olive oil spray. Bake in 350 degree oven until it looks set. I guess you might be able to do this in the microwave too but I'm not a huge fan of that. And remember, this would make 2 servings!

Oh and I just bought this sf chocolate that I bet I could put a square in the middle of the batter and get something like a chocolate lava cake!

In phase I, we are allowed up to 100 cals of a sweet treat daily and "no sugar added fudgsicles" are recommeneded for this.

as for your seeking cake like.....it'd help you alot to get a grip on this type of thinking as it will derail you if you allow it to dominate your mind. I say this because I had to do that......a lot!!

Here's a thought for you , we are allowed beans in phase I. Many beans are now available as flours and can easily be made into a chocolate cake. There are recipes for this around the kitchen section on this site. PORTION CONTROL will be key on a food like this though.

I'll see if I can find you a link.

Thank you all for your ideas and suggestions! I understand the part about derailing and changing my thinking, double chocolate cake is the ONLY thing that I can't get off my mind. Not sure why that exact craving came at a time like this. I'm not a good dieter, so it's been tough for me to not just go out and bake that cake and eat it, but I haven't, so thought if I could find an alternative to satisfy that craving, then maybe it would go away.

Thanks again for all the !

I tried the ricotta cake last night, definitely needs more sugar substitute, it was pretty bitter from the cocoa powder.
