Ya know what I love about this WOE?!?!?! Done right, I can enjoy the culinary delights that New Orleans has to offer and not feel guilty! I get to enjoy a trip there about every 1.5 years, so I treat myself to some selected high-carb delights.
I enjoyed 1/4 a mufaletta sandwich at the Napolean House (reportedly the best mufaletta sandwich in town), a bowl of seafood gumbo w/rice, a wonderful grilled tuna steak salad (hey, wait a minute - that one is low carb!), and some jambalaya (not all these at one meal!) at some French Quarter dining establishments. I burned off some extra calories walking through the Vieux Carre. I had NO desire for a biegnet at Cafe du Monde (I've had one before and once is enough for a fried lump of dough smothered in powdered sugar). I ate low carb bacon and eggs for breakfast at some eateries with local color (purple and yellow LSU colors to be specific
) and danced through the night at the private club party last night (and, well, eeeearly this morning too). All "high carb delights" were eaten in moderation, and chosen for their culinary fame, fully aware of the "consequences" of eating more than normal carbs (water weight, etc.).
Whoooo hooooo! A "top-ten" New Years Eve for sure!
I know I'll put on a little water weight, but one of the things I love about this WOE is that after a few days eating "normally" again (low carb, that is) I'll lose the water and feel fantastic. All without denying myself the special treats that come about on special occasions. I'm soooo glad that this WOE is not about forever forbidding certain foods, but about learning when it is appropriate to indulge and being able to do it in moderation and with minimal effects.
Ain't it great!
