When you come right down to it, it's an N=1 world. That's where I live and how I base my views currently.

Yes. Imagine if we were trying to figure out what exogenous insulin does, and instead of hacking the metabolism of a single person with diabetes, we tested it on groups of people, some diabetic, some not, and averaged their results. On average, a black swan only makes all swans a very slight off-white.

LOL, black swans make the white swan's children become BLACK. Unless the whites have the dominate white gene, then the offspring are all white. My blue chickens can produce "ash" colored offspring....

I digress, lol

My N=1 response was based on the prospect of Kevin Hall's statistical tricks, selection bias, and him playing the role of the nutritionally anointed. Many studies, not just the ones Hall is involved in and not just nutritional studies, result in skewed findings due to a lack of discipline in the scientific method or a desire to prove something advantageous to the researcher or both for any number of reasons. In those cases, I choose to focus on things in which I can trust. Hidden agendas abound in today's polarized world where facts aren't allowed to get in the way of a good story.

Reminds me of the line from one of my favorite movies: "All we got to do is tell the story right."

"Publish or perish" is a phrase coined to describe the pressure in academia to publish academic work(s) to sustain or further one's career. This study looks to be better science, longer than most and not a followed meta analysis. With at least one obvious flaw IMO:
Quote:
Carbs provided to all three groups were of high quality, conforming to guidelines for minimizing sugar and using whole rather than highly processed grains.

Yeah, "It works for me" is good enough in my book -- selfish, but we can't save everyone.
