Default Cardio the day after heavy weights

I am currently doing high intensity weight training combined with swimming.

The schedule is

day 1 Weights (full body)
day 2 rest
day 3 Swimming
day 4 Swimming
then back to day one.

Given that I am doing weights to build up muscle mass and tone, am I correct in having a full days rest after each workout, or can you do cardio the day after without preventing the muscles from resting properly.

You can actually do cardio seven days a week, but don't lift more than every other day (at least not working the same muscle group). I lift every other day and swim and do cardio five-six days a week. I personally need that day of rest and sometimes I take the entire weekend off if I've had good workouts that week.

Question....after a day of lower body work out - how can I do anything aerobic the next day? Seems to me that cuts into the day of rest after weight training.
