Default Need information about this product?

Can some one tell me the net carbs to this product and if it is okay to have....

The ingredients are:

Blueberries, unsweetened concentrated grape juice, fruit pectin, concentrated lemon juice....

Nutritional information

1 tbsp - 33 calories
protein - 0.2
fat - 0.0
carb - 8 g
natural sugar - 7.8
sodium - 1mg
potassium - 77 mg

I am not sure if we can subtract the natural sugar to get the net carbs or is the net car 8g?

Hi Julie,

The net carbs are calculated by subtracting fibre, not sugars, so yes the net carbs are the same here as the total carbs.

Fruit juices generally contain very little, if any, fibre so the carb count looks accurate.

8g carbs for 1 tablespoon is a very high carb count indeed.

I think you'd be better off sticking to freash fruit. Much more bang for your carb buck. Fresh fruit has the advantage of having fibre, so the carb count will be a whole lot less. I think the majority of the carbs in your product come from the concentrated grape juice. It may not have sugar as such added, but it is very high in natural sugars.

HTH!

I think the term "natural sugar" is an attempt to make it seem like its healthy sugar. For Atkins you subtract the fiber only so it would be 8 carbs. Also since this product is lacking fiber it will really spike your blood sugar. You could eat blueberries though.

Since your question had nothing to do with the Atkins diet, some helpful moderator person (not me, I've been busy) moved it to the general low carb forum where everyone, not just followers of Atkins can benefit from it.
