Default New to PCOS

Just got diagnosed with PCOS yesterday. Also started taking Metformin yesterday.

DH and I have been working on TTC #1, so I think this is a step in the right direction. Of course after trying for a year and a half, I think anything that can help is a step in the right direction.

Just thought I would pop in and say Hello!

I would have thought that this area was more like the other areas of the board in which people respond or at least say "Hi".

My stepdaughter recently was diagnosed with PCOS so I'm glad to see a forum with some information. I don't know much about it, but the dietitian recommended we follow SBD (which I am already doing) so at least I won't have to learn a whole new diet plan.

HI was recently diagnosed too. Have started SB. I just had blood work done to see if i am insulin resistant too. I have read they go hand in hand. Not on any meds just yet. Waiting for 2 months to decide what to do. Drs. want to see how I am doing in that time. We have twins (8yr) and I would like another but Dh says no more. Hol

Hey Hol - welcome to the PCOS section!

Have you found out if you are insulin resistant yet? Because of my symptoms (and because DH and I are TTC #1) I was put on Metformin right away. I have been taking it for 4 months now and my cycles have not regulated as of yet.

I hope that the next couple of months on LC go well for you! Let me know if you ever want to talk.

Hey, mlk18shuny
I have normal insulin levels. So they did not want me to start any other meds but THE PILL. So, I am trying so hard on the SB but it is cookie time here girl scouts and it is rough with sooo many boxes, cases here. The Dh has started with me so it is easier. Not, weighed in, in awhile will do at the end of the week.
I'm feeling better and now my TOM has gone in the opposite direction every 2 wks so that is why the PILL. Hol

I have been dx with PCOS also and am insulin resistant. We are also TTC #3. With the other 2, both times I conceived after losing a bit of weight (and I wasn't heavy at all then), so I think that that is a big factor in women with PCOS.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi I have PCOS too and just underwent IVF in order to get pregnant.

Please do everything you can to learn about PCOS and its effects. It does not just affect fertility but also your heart and cardiovascular system. Its effects are lifelong.

Low carb is a great first step. You can actually have normal glucose levels but still have dysfunctional insulin. I do. Because of this, a low cal, high carb diet packs on pounds as if I was eating lard out of the can. Carbs make PCOS a progressive disease. The more carbs you eat, the worse it gets.

What kind of specialist are you seeing? OB? Reproductive Endocrinologist? Endocrinologist?

F - I'm the same way - normal glucose levels, yet dysfunctional insulin.

I'm seeing my OB. She's been good, and I've done a lot of online research about PCOS and she knows what she's doing. If I ever am interested in a second opinion, I know that I will go to an RE about an hour away.

Luv - I had a laparoscopy in January and my OB found endometriosis. I am currently on the lupron depot shot for 6 months to treat the endometriosis. So I'm on a little TTC wait. However, I am all of a sudden very successful in loosing weight.

Good luck with TTC #3!
