Default 100 Day Eye-on-the-Prize Challenge

Counting today, there are now 100 days left in 2021. So let's finish strong!

This challenge is simple: Devise a plan that will be challenging to adhere to, but doable. Every day between now and the New Year grade yourself on whether you succeeded in following your plan. Then record it here as either a 0 (didn't succeed) or a 1 (did succeed) by replacing the 'x' in the template below. The template is organized into ten 10-day rounds. At the end of each round total up the scores for that round and, at the end, total up the round scores to get your final challenge score.

This challenge is not about achieving a goal and it's not really a competition. It is about focus and behavior and developing self-discipline. If, at the end of the challenge you have made progress toward your goal, then you're a winner. More importantly, you will hopefully learn some things about how well you are able to stick to a plan and keep your focus for an extended period. What you learn can then help guide your future efforts.

Take ownership and make the challenge yours. Modify it as you see fit, including changing it midstream. Feel free to score fractional points or higher than 1 for really good days and a negative value for really bad days. Find something that seems to work for you.

I was originally going to have a point system that combined diet and exercise and gave partial points, bonus points, and penalty points. But in the end decided to keep it super simple. I either make my target of having a 1500 kcal deficit or I don't. It can be through any combination of diet and exercise.

If things go well, then I should be very close to my goal weight by New Years and after the first of the year I'll do another challenge where the focus is strictly about exercise.

Huge payoff for keeping my eye on the prize. I'm now at my lowest weight in over 35 years (since shortly after I turned 21).

You would hope that that would be motivation enough to keep me pushing. I sure hope that's the case.

This is the most difficult time of year for me. Halloween and Thanksgivng and Christmas are diet busters. Trying for a way of eating that works for me.

Oooooooh. So late. Mind if I join?
I have known of my quarantine chub for almost a year now and keep losing and regaining the same 5lbs. Time to stop messing around.

Stick to my ADF protocol and stop going all Vegas all weekend.
I already quit drinking so that will help with the weekends but clearly I need to pare it down some more. I am ready for some accountability. That's the only way I behave myself right now. I will give myself points for meeting my goals: for staying in calories and for exercising. I'm lackadaisical about both on the weekends.

Coming off a vacation, and I sure ate like I was on vacation the whole time. I am not weighing in to see the damage until Friday or Saturday.
