There's a new low-sugar gel I saw in womens' running magazine today in the bookstore- I believe it is still made of agave- so if you need the psychological boost, it might be a good option. When I was running 9+ miles, I woluld have sf peanut butter.

sprinkles! You just confirmed what I was hoping would be a good option! I think I need something at about 8/9 miles at this point. I'm going to pick up some peanut butter packets and give them a try. :-)

Justins has single-serve ones, and they're all natural, so no chemicals and stuff. They're not really cheap, but definitely just as good for a long run. THey have almond butter too.

I know I posed this question on like Day 3 of my Atkins lifestyle. It's been 10 months and I'll revisit it.

I personally am unable to run the long distances without the extra carbs. I just cant do it. I may be different from other people because I've been insulin dependent in 2 pregnancies and borderline Type II....but again, whatever the reason, I've been unable to not use the GU or Accel Gels. I don't use them on short runs or even mid distance, but I do on anything over 7 miles now.

Just today I ran a half marathon and set a personal record by 24 minutes (dropped my time from 2:42:39 to 2:18:12 since April). I used an Accel Gel at mile 6 and at mile 11 a GU.

Meh. I'm in pre-maintenance now, so I am getting 40-80 carbs a day depending on if I work out, so I just factor the GU carbs into my day and carry on.

I can't imagine carrying nuts, or peanut butter with me on a run, but honestly I think everyone finds what works for them
