Default The Cheese Question...

Hi,
I've been on a Yeast elimination diet for the last two weeks...no dairy except butter, kefir and yogurt. I'm not sure if it's working to keep the Candida in check, but I was wondering - is cream cheese REALLY that bad? I'm really missing it. Does it have enough lactose in it to feed the yeasties? Has anyone tried reintroducing small amounts of bacterial culture cheeses like cream cheese or quark? I figure if yogurt is "OK" for some, then cheese should be too? Or should I just eliminate dairy all together...oh the willpower that would take. Thanks.

I'd love to know the question to this one too because I have cut out all dairy for similar reasons.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated

My nutritionist lets me have cottage cheese and I can have young cheeses in moderation (like edam and phili etc).

Parmesan is an old cheese and has mould spores on it - so it's not good for you if you are following a strict candida diet.

Well.. I think you can try having it and just see how you body reacts to it. There are different opinions on it. Some people say diary is a big no-no (incl kefir and yougurt), some say you HAVE to have kefir and yougurts and some sources claim that even feta and cream cheese can do no harm.
I guess you can give it a try and see if it doesn't make you feel worse. I keep on observing my tongue. If this white coat on it starts disappearing it is ok !
good luck

madzia - that is a good idea...i've always wondered how to 'monitor' my candida to see which foods were triggers for me. now i've been having some strange ear imbalance problems since reintroducing cream cheese - is this possibly candida related? any input would be appreciated...thanks!

I've been fighting the yeasties for years--going all the way back to the late '80's (whoo, dating myself , and I find that when I allow cheeses back into my diet, my ears get a full feeling--kind of fluid-filled--especially depending on the pollen count. My body can handle a bit of cheese when it's NOT allergy season. try going without any dairy for 5-7 days and see what your body does. Good luck!
