Default What do you all do to get your calories up??

What do you eat to get your calories up?

I found when I started fitday that my calories are too low. I just want some suggestions on how to get them up so that maybe my weight loss will speed up a bit.

Thanks!

Whipped cream (usually with strawberries)

Extra dressing on the salad

Dressing on stir-fried veggies

Hope this helps!

That may be my problem. I just can't stand the taste of dressing on my salad. It may be ok cooked with meat or something like that. The Whipped cream would probably work great for me. Thanks!!

Unless you are very active, I don't think your average is at all too low for your weight. At that level you aren't in danger of losing muscle or slowing down your metabolism, I think eating more would only slow your weight loss.

I weight 156, live a sedentary lifestyle (almost no physical activity lately since treadmill broke ) and don't eat more than 1400 calories daily. Sigh I miss my treadmill... it will be a week until I can get it back.

I seem to be losing about 1 pound every two weeks. Now today and yesterday I was able to get the calories up, but some days I have had like 900 calories and I was real surprised about that. I had heard it is best to have your calories at 2000 or so to lose faster.

I did find on the days during the holidays that I cheated and ate a lot then I lost more weight. It could have been the calories.

Almonds or macadamia nuts are a good high calorie snack. Almonds also have a lot of calcium so a double advantage there! I probably eat too much beef, but it is high in calories too. You might try experimenting with sour cream or sauces that you like, using them on things you wouldn't normally think of. I'm probably weird, but I love melted garlic butter on things, veggies, steak, chicken, you name it. HTH.

Honestly I haven't really kept track of my calories. I'm never hungry and don't eat till I am. But for me, I think if I don't get enough calories it definetly stalls my weightloss. Before Starting Atkins I was lucky if I took in 800 a day and all I kept doing was gaining. I know people see my weight and say "you had to be eating more then that" but I wasn't lol- it was what I was eating and how much really.

I've never had to get my calories higher! Wow, what a concept! I like it!

I do eat fairly high calorie to start with though I think. I'm pretty liberal with my meats and cheeses, salad dressings, etc. If I'm hungry, I eat.

What a great question.

I have the same issue. At 290 pounds, I eat about 1400 per day these days, and I am never hungry. I'm eating way too little, although at your weight, you aren't so far off, I'd think.

Fitday tells me that I have a total caloric output of 3600, so my deficits are high. I try to get them up, but it's difficult to raise calories without raising carbs, unless I just eat tons of meat. Nuts I'm off for a while to see if they're part of what stalled me.

I'm utilizing pork rinds and jerky to try to boost calories a bit. At meals, I do a decent amount of cheese on salads, etc.

Butter, mayo (does have carbs), and cooking with olive oil do it for me. They are normally the things that get my calories above the 1K mark.

Scientifically, this makes no sense at all. Increasing calories does not lead to increased weight loss. Otherwise Newton and Einstein were idiots Now there is a danger from eating TOO few calories, say 700-800 per day like in a Nutrisystem plan.....only because you lose weight SO fast the amount of muscle loss increases. If you are eating a reasonable amount of calories, say 1500-2000, are losing some weight, and don't feel overly deprived, why fool with it?

Remember the worst diet is the one you can't stick to.....

Although not proven out, the general theory is that the process of burning fat consumes more energy than burning carbs. So, you need to be up high enough in calories to combat that. 1200 is too low for most people. Take a look at this thread: Where's the FAT?

Thats true, and its also more true for protein. Its called the thermic effect of food. That is why studies show that 2300 calories on an LC diet is the same as 2000 calories on a low fat diet in terms of weight loss. But don't kid anyone, eating 2000 calories of chicken breast will make you lose faster than 3000 calories of chicken breast. The energy equation is simple and finite physics.
