Hi Yogibear
Happy Aust Day - hope it's been a good one

Over here and possibly it's the same in Aust. Weight watchers jelly has minimal carbs and sugars, the sweetener used is (Cyclamate, Saccharin) I think it's Ok -someone (senior member)might like to confirm that please
Cheers and good luck

Hi Yogi,

I keep hoping that one day I'll walk into the supermarket and find a jelly that's sweetened with Splenda. Hasn't happened yet, but I keep hoping.

I think most of our diet jellies are sweetened with saccharin and cyclamates. As Macadamia says, they are okay, but for me they're not okay because they taste hideous. Hate that aftertaste.

I have made homemade jelly with mushed up frozen raspberries, gelatine and Splenda. It seemed more trouble than it was worth though.

HTH?

Roz

Dr Atkins says in his NDR book:

"You must detemine which artificial sweeteners agree with you, but the following are allowed: sucralose (marketed as SplendaŽ), saccharin, cyclamate, acesulfame-K. My preference, however, is sucralose."

By the way, sucralose can be called 955, saccharin 954, cyclamate 952 and acesulfame-K 951.

I can only find jellies sweetened with saccharin and cyclamate. But there is a safeway supermarket at the Mountain Gate Shopping Centre, Ferntree Gully, Melbourne that sells Cottees diet jelly sweetened with Splenda. But unfortunately this supermarket seems to be replacing it with Cottees sweetened with 954 & 952, bit of a shame.

I'll have to write to them and complain. Stay away from the Aspartame (951) though, I read that it produces 92 harmful side effects!!.

Default low sugar jam

Don't know if it's available down under, but in the US Smuckers has recently started marketing a jam with about 1/2 the usual amount of sugar and no artificial sweeteners.

Tastes pretty good, too. Not sugar free, but, IMHO, not criminal either, in SMALL doses!

Hi Pokey One,

Thanks for the info, but "jelly" in Australia & New Zealand (and I think the UK) is what you call "jello."

Cheers.

Default ooops!

My bad!

what a difference a little interpretation makes. Sorry, I recognize some different word usages between the queen's english and americanese, but jello/jelly wasn't one I was aware of.

Anyway, now there is info about low-sugar jam in the jello thread!

Thanks for expanding my "English-Americanese" crosswalk!

I just noticed a mistake in my previous post, Acesulfame K is actually 950.

Thanks again pokey one..sorry about our language. Now don't Smuckers make Goober Grape Jelly? Hmmm I love that stuff whoops loved that stuff....gotta convince myself that I don't need to like it anymore as it's a hinderence to my weightloss which isn't happening. It used to be a rare treat to get some here but now I don't think it is too difficult.

Thanks too el-jj. Anything with a number makes me cringe. I like it all natural.

Hi Rosebud glad you're back. Hope you're feeling great.
