Default Introduction -Newbie Here

Well this is my first time posting here and I just started Atkins earlier this week. I think its the plan for me due to my diet over the past few years. I was a very strict vegetarian for 4 years and at mainly pasta, rice, ramen and such. Before college (5 years ago) I was only 145 lbs and think I could stand to loose a few then also. Durning college though I did some weight training and worked out quite regularily, but still managed to gain wieght till I hit about 200 lbs when I graduated last May, Over the course of the past few months though I changed my diet back to eating meat and gained another 30 lbs pretty quick.
So anyways here I am at 230 (I would like to get down to 180) lbs trying to do atkins, hopefully correctly. I never was big on sweets so I dont mind giving them up and veggies are no problem. I am worried about how much meat I have been eating though during induction. I eat till I'm satisfied, but still it seems like alot. I really only get carbs from my veggies which I limit to about 2 cups a day (mostly lettuce, some broccoli). So what I'm basically wondering is, during induction we really just eat nothing but meat and eggs, with a few veggies (of course under the 20g carb limit)? I just don't want to gain a bunch of wieght cause I'm eating fatty hamburger all the time and eggs galore. Plus I'm wondering if I don't get enough fat in my diet will that effect the atkins approach? I don't care for butter on my veggies really and not a huge fan of cheese, so I dont know if I'm getting enough fat just through meat.
As a sidenote my goal is to lose 50 lbs by August (my next b-day) if at all possible. Does this sound like an unrealistic goal? I do strength training at least 3 times a week on a quite regular basis for an hour/hour and half with the occasional 45 min cardio along with the diet.

I would recommend you buy the Atkins book or at least check it out at the library. It is important to know the whys and wherefores of this plan to do it properly.

That said, induction suggests you lower your carb intake to 20 grams a day for the first two weeks. Lower than that is not necessary and given your level of activity, not even advisable.

Welcome and good luck to you.
