Hi there. One thing about Ketosticks - don't rely too much on them. I started obsessing about them when I first started. Could never get in the "dark" colour. Basically what I use them for now is to check if a certain food has thrown me out of ketosis (eg: found out the cappuccino tossed me completely, so subsequently - no more cappuccino's!).
Use them as a guide only.
Cheers...Pam

To get dark purple you should be dehydrated. If you are showing any color on those little strips you are AOK. IN this case "more" is not always better.

Congrats! You are in Ketosis!

I tend to be one of those people worried about what the strips said! Haven't been able to get in the darker colors since I first started this way of living. NOW I am always in the lightest color, and for most of this week the things said I wasn't in it at all! BUT Atkins says that all the strips really tell you is if there are ketones in your urine. Sometimes for other factors they are not, drinking a lot of water, exercise, TOM. But that DOSE NOT mean you are not into ketosis.

"The stips can read negative, but if you are losing weight then you are in ketosis!" These words came right from the doctor's mouth on the Larry King interview.

I too never really hit a darker shade so Im happy if the stick turns any shade of pink I HAVE A PINK STICK!!! YEAAAA

I also use it to moderate what I eat or drink. I was nice shade of pink the other day & had about a 10oz glass of malt liquer and it showed a negative color soon after so no more for me that night.
The next day the nice little pink color was back so I know I did no lasting harm.

I've also noticed that on my TOM the pink is not as pink. Thats ok.....<G> its still pink & Im still losing.

Like someone earlier said, I obsessed about the stixs at first but it was a nice learning tool once I learned to relax a bit.

Good luck & keep on keeping on.
