Default CAD over 50

Hello,

I'm a "grandma to be" in May. This will be my first so who, hoo!
Anyway, I've been trying every lc diet out there including CAD and CALP (a couple of years ago). Since then I have found that I am pre-diabetic and I know I'm severly insulin resistent. My blood sugar drops every 2-3 hours. I'd like to do CAD but I can't go long inbetween meals. Can I still do this program or CALP?

A Dr. has me taking a herbal, medical shake made by Metagenics that has 16 g's of carbs per day. It is helping greatly with Insulin resistence and carb cravings but I'm wondering how can I do CALP or CAD taking this product? Could I incorporate it into my reward meal? Could I then still have some other carbs?

Also, I wonder about going on metformin? Has anyone had success with this and being more insulin sensitive and able to go longer in between meals?

Thanks for the input. I'm excited to hear from some of you because I'm really desperate to shed some of these punds. I only have about 20 to lose, but it's like cement, glued to my 54 yr. old body. I need to know if I should see another MD. Also, my mother died of diabetes and I'm working so hard not to follow in her footsteps. I'm afraid I inherited her pancreas though!
HELP!

Blessings 2U,
Grandma
