Default works on hips? 4 inches in 6 weeks?

Hey there everyone
I have this ONE pair of dickies pants.. that the hips are 44inches. They DO fit.. just a wee bit snug... as my hips are 48inches...

any tips on targeting those hips? I would really LOVE to lose 4 inches there in 6 weeks time (by september 1st). I am joining a gym next week... is toning the answer?

or does tae bo really target those hips? or just plain running.

any tips would be great! thanks!

Some great lower body exercises are squats, deadlifts, and lunges. Add in some walking, running, etc for some extra calorie burn. You can do these with barbells or dumbbells.

Additionally, I personally would be doing lots dumbbell swings. This is a great exercise for overall body conditioning, easy to learn and burns a heck of a lot of calories. I would start with three workouts a week. 3 sets of 5-10 reps using a 10 lb dumbbell to start. As you feel like it, increase the weight, sets, reps, or all of them. Stand on a 4" box for increased range of motion.

Unfortunatley you cannot spot reduce fat in any specific area by targeted execise....

kbfun did provide some great exercises that will help tone and shape those muscles in the hip area that should show you some difference in shape. You should see the pants losening up... although 4 inches in six weeks is a big goal.

Good luck!

spot reducing doesn't work. However, working the muscles in that area can help to slim them down. Walking is great for the hips - biking is great for the butt/hip area too. Squats i find to be the most annoying (at first) but effective lower body exercise. They're annoying only if you have a balance issue. I find it easiest to start by extending your arms fully in front of you and resting your hands on something - like the back of a chair, etc. stick your butt out and make sure the weight falls back on your heels, keep your back straight and just go down as far as you can comfortably. Keep doing it - as you keep it up, you'll be able to go further down into the squat. Eventually you can stop using the chair for balance and add weights if you want.

Thanks everyone! I've been at the gym.. and doing squats. I've been doing a machine that you almost lay down.. and with both legs push a huge platform up. It burns my legs and everything!

I have also been doing the eliptical 30-35 minutes a day. I can feel it burning in my legs and lower area.. so I hope it is working some at least!

I simply have a goal of 210lbs by September 1st... I am 222 right now.. so I hope I can get there with my 20 minutes of toning and 30 minutes of cardio a day!!

My advice would be to add Callanetics 3X a week. That will help you lean out the fastest. IMHO
