Default Even Healthier Tunafish Salad

I'm on a quest to increase my (AND my family's) Omega-3 intake.
Bottom line easiest way? tunafish, sardines, wild-caught salmon.

Well, the kids (and hubby) will NOT look at, much less eat, sardines.
SOOOOOOO.....

Even Healthier Tunafish Salad
(I keep things simple)

* 2 cans tunafish packed in water, drained.
* 1/2 tin sardines packed in olive oil (NEVER packed in soybean oil!)
* mayo (olive-oil-based OR coldpressed canola-oil-based ONLY...NEVER soybean oil)
* salt

Mix all the above.

Make sure the tuna is WELL drained.
Take out spines of sardines, or they will give you away (I eat them myself).
Use LOTS of mayo so that it is moist and enjoyable.
I add the salt 'cause I find it brings out the nice flavor (especially of the mayo) and hides the sardine flavor.

If you like fancier tunafish, by all means, add stuff. But this is the good base that will mask the fact that you're giving people (yourself included) sardines!

I love tuna salad and eat it frequently...especially as a tuna melt. Are you sure you can't taste the sardines? If that's true I might try it.

One more thing...what's wrong with soybean oil? I don't eat soybeans in any form because I'm allergic, but I love my Hellman's mayo and don't have any reaction to the oil.

Soybean oil messes up your hormonal balance including all of the following:
1. estrogen
2.testosterone
3. thyroid

Plus it is an inflammatory that can cause heart disease and cancer.

Switch to mayonnaise made with canola oil or make your own.

Not only that, but depending on how the soybean oil is prepped, it could have been converted to a trans fat/partially hydrogenated fat...and NOT required to be labeled as such.

I use Dilly Dip made with canola oil and sour cream. It's the only processed food I eat and only once or twice a week with my tuna or salmon salad. Sometimes if I can get the tuna in olive oil I don't even have to add anything to it. It tastes good as is.

I don't think canola oil is good for us either. Who ever heard of it 50 years ago? Does our body even recognize it as a food?

Also, Hellman's makes a mayo with olive oil and canola I think. We can get it here in Canada.

And, soy anything is very detrimental to everyone.

I love canned tuna, but am worried about the high mercury content. It's supposedly really high in all brands.

But for when I do make it, thanks for the tips!

I TOTALLY agree. That canola mayo stuff is heavenly. It's the best mayo around.
