Default 'No Sugar / No Starch' diet, week 1 results

I started adhering this diet one week ago on saturday the 8th. The rules are as follows:
  • Fewer than 20 net carbs per day.
  • No refined or added natural sugars.
  • no starches.
  • Eat some vegetables each day (this is where all of your carbs should come from)
  • Eat as much meat and eggs as you want - avoiding processed meats (which have to be screened individually for carbs)
  • Eat when you are hungry
  • Stop eating when you are full

I exceeded the carb target a little on the first two days. Once from eating some tomato and olives in a salad, and once from eating too much onion.

Since then, I have been diligent about tracking my carbs and staying below 20.

It is now one week later, so it seems appropriate to post my results so far:

After one week, I have lost 7.2 pounds (from 344.6 to 337.4).

I've heard that rate slows down a bit after two weeks, which is fine - as long as I keep moving in the right direction. No rush though, I'm in it for the long haul. This isn't a diet, it's a way of life. I'm not expecting a silver bullet. Just a path along which hard work will yield results.

It's crazy to think that I'm eating 6 eggs for breakfast every day, and a plate full of meat at night - and losing more weight that I ever could have on any other diet.

My final goal is 155, but there's a lot of milestones in the middle that I'll be excited to reach.

For now, I'm just glad to see positive momentum.

Hey, hey...congrats!
  • That's the same book (Taubes) that I read to get started.
I also flailed a bit the first few days.
I also lost 7 lbs my first week.
I too slowed after the first two weeks...hang in there!
Still on Induction (the Appendix at the back of the book) after two months and losing 2-3 lbs a week
Feel like a new, and much younger man (I'm 58)...

There have been a few bumps in the road...
  • I got the "Low Carb Flu" during my second week...felt like crap.
I had to quit cycling for a week to let my body adapt.
My weight loss stalled for three weeks after the two week point (but has resumed).
My cloths are hanging on me like I'm dead...

Hang in there...it's worth it!
