Default Can't get back into ketosis

Hello all,

I've been following a keto diet since March, 2018. Things were going well until about a month ago when I fell off the wagon for two weeks. I've been back following strict keto since then (two weeks) but I can't seem to get back into ketosis. I've checked my ketostix every day for the last 5 days and nothing. Also, I find myself extremely hungry these days. I haven't felt hungry since starting keto in March. What gives?

Alicia

It's hard to tell why we don't get back into ketosis. I've been doing lots of study about ketosis and whether it's really necessary for our bodies to lose. Sometimes, going back to the beginning and reading a book or a trusted website helps do the detective work. This one is comprehensive but concise.

Quoting Dr. Ron Rosedale on chasing ketones at the Keto Summit:
Quote:
“I don’t want people to have the mindset that it’s the ketones that are the benefit of the diet. They are a beneficial side effect, but the main benefit is that you are burning fatty acids from fat. The more fatty acids from fat you are burning, the less glucose you need to burn. And that’s really where you are getting the benefit…So ketones are great but the term ketogenic diet indicating that the diet is so good because you are generating all these ketones is a misinterpretation of the benefit. The main benefit is that you are burning fatty acids, and as a side effect of burning fatty acids you are producing ketones that your body can burn too!”

BluesEInger has a good suggestion--when you can read the program and compare your choices for the last 2 weeks you are likely to see if any hiccups are causing the problem.

For me, I often delude myself as to my food choices and quantities and that results in no loss. Then I re-read the rules, and can see with clarity the problem. And then back to loosing again.

Too much added fat, too many carbs via nuts or seeds, too much dairy..... Atkins has specific rules for each one.

Im sure you will find your answer soon.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure my issue is quantity. I think I'm still losing (or at least not gaining). I'll revisit my process

After two weeks and 5 days, I am back in ketosis! Yay. Lesson learned. It took as long plus some to get back in ketosis after a two week binge. Won't do that again.

This way of eating becomes a journey as we hit hiccups and find solutions......and learn our lessons for success. We are all traveling this journey.
