ONe of Atkins greatest gifts, was that it was not my fault. I could let go of that guilt---- and eliminate the need to soothe the shame via binging.

Just start again.

“WARNING: The more weight you’ve lost, the easier it is to gain it back…Once the body has filled its fat deposits to a certain overweight level, this is the weight that careless eating will quickly return you to.

On the other hand, the person who has lost 50 to 100 pounds might be more motivated to keep off the weight by watching his maintenance diet carefully. His life has been so transformed. It’s wonderful to be able to enjoy trying and buying smart new clothes, to hear compliments, to look like other people, to feel a part of the group. And it isn’t as if the maintenance diet left him hungry, left him out of things…you can dine in any restaurant in any country…”

I cannot tell you how many times remembering the above warning allowed me to keep an Off Plan meal from turning into a lost weekend, or month, or year…as it previously had.

' Fallacy #1: Ketosis is dangerous and causes a variety of medical problems."

"Fallacy #6 : You eat too much protein when doing Atkins, which is bad for the kidneys."

I hear the irony in these now.

Good News/Bad News. Have found both aspects to be true:

“I concede that the WORST feature of this diet is the rapidity with which you gain if you abandon it. But the BEST feature is that this is a diet you can LIVE WITH FOREVER IN COMFORT AND LUXURY.” Dr. Atkins

Yup, you could spend two years losing a ton of weight on low carb, and if you started eating carbs again it would only take two months to gain that all back and then some.

Had similar experience with bad boss. Had lost 150 pounds, then I was transferred to work for Boss from Hell. Within 4 days, stressed to the max. Gained 50 pounds in less than 6 months. It took 2 years of hard work and determination to shed that 50 pounds. Maybe we could get group rate on voodoo dolls!

I know donkeys are different from humans (they're better than most!) but if protein is bad for the kidneys, I wonder how my donkey got kidney disease. His diet is 99.9% grass hay - the rest is treats of fresh grass & carrots.

Sorry your buddy is having kidney problems.

Unfortunately kidney disease can be from a number of issues, eating too much protein is not one of them. Only when the kidney is in crisis is the amount of protein kept low.

So on a diet of grass and more grass and a few carrots, your fellow did not get kidney disease from that protein. Poor baby.

On food intolerances,

Sadly, we can now add the Mid- Eastern people AND the Chinese people.
