Angry spider-bite medication

During second week of induction I was on antihistamines because of an allergic reaction to a spider-bite. First week's weight loss 2lb, second week 1lb (second time around for me on Atkins and I've always been a slow loser). Does anyone know if this medication makes it more difficult to lose? Also, does weight gained on certain medication come off automatically after end of treatment, or does it have to be 'worked at'? Many thanks in advance for info.

I am not sure how the antihistimine will stall your weight loss, but I am on antihistimine for the spring and summer months plus asthma medication etc...and the weight loss is slow, but I am losing pounds and inches. If you don't have to be on the antihistimine for long...I wouldn't worry too much. Did you read DANDR? He says some meds will inhibit weight loss. Antihistimines are on that list.

Thank you Alice. I'm hopeful the perhaps extra lbs. will melt when I get them out of my system.

"Sudden weight gains" such as 5 pounds in 5 days, are water. You just can't put on fat that fast. So some of that will come off pretty quickly when you finish taking the antihistamine.

Atkins says that ANY prescription medication is likely to slow things down - some more than others. Just keep eating LC and you may be losing fat while holding onto water. It will eventually give up and you'll lose more. Take your measurements or a tight piece of clothing for good awarenss of losing. That's better than the scales anyway.

Since you started out only needing to lose 20 pounds, you are actually ahead of the game compared to most people. Generally, you can expect to lose about 10% of what you need to lose somewhere between the first two weeks and the first month. You lost 10% in the first week.

Just stick to it and you will reach goal before you know it. Focus on the positive changes in your health that are happening right now.

Keep the Faith!

Many thanks friends for your help. My weight fell quite a bit more (even at my usual slow progress) about two days after the end of induction, so that was perhaps the medication wearing itself out.
