Default I'm looking at breath meters

I see them on Amazon ranging from $45 - $55 and others that are all over $100 that come with an app to chart your progress. I don't see those models sold without it but I'm not so interested in the app. I wonder if those are any better than the others.

Also, if you have one or have used them, how long do the mouthpieces last? How much variance is there on the quality of the different brands? Any firm recommendations?

First what is your goal ?

Quote:
if you’re using a ketogenic diet primarily for fat loss, it’s not necessary to measure your ketones. Ketones are the result, not the cause, of breaking down fat. Having higher ketones doesn’t guarantee you’ll lose more body fat or lose it more quickly, so your ketone level tells you nothing about how effective your diet is for reaching that particular goal. Remember: ketones come from breaking down fat, which is great, but if your ketone level is high, you can’t be sure whether it’s from burning the fat on your body or from the fat on your plate. (Or in your fat-loaded coffee, if you’re into that.) A scale, not a ketone meter, is your best tool for gauging weight loss, and if you’re going for fat loss, a tape measure is even better.

Optimal ketosis’ is a goal. More ketones are better. The lie that started the keto movement.

I've used a https://www.ketonix.com/ for a few years. It was solid. No additional costs after first purchase. I stopped using it and decided to play with blood meter - I'm kind of bored with that too. It is interesting tho if you do extended fasting to watch the ketone levels build to shocking levels. Our biology is amazing!

This is a pretty long thread we had back in the day on Ketonix and Breath Ketones in general - lots of wild speculation!

Hi, Jay
Mainly, I'm interested in gaining a clue as to whether my reductions are fat, or mostly fat. Yes, we know protein is muscle sparing but until I lose more of this fat pad that hides my muscle tone, it can be hard to be confident. Also, when I have added exercise in the past, my scale-loss slows a bit. I want to have this to back up my comfort that the slow-down is irrelevant.
Plus, if I start showing really high readings, I would look at how much dietary fat I'm eating. I am very conflicted by people who report losing weight while adding tons of fat while it just makes better sense to burn the fat we're wearing rather than what we're eating. I started LC in '99 and the doctors at that time had descriptions of benefits to dietary fat in the early stages of losing. It's all anecdotal, but w/o anecdotes, this site would dry up. We are all engaged in anecdotes. I want to sort out where I fit in this question of dietary fat vs body fat. A constructive level of ketones would go a long way in my mind, toward achieving this.
I'm also just curious and they've come down a lot in price.

But, my burning question is still unanswered. Do the mouthpieces wear out, or are they so more than one person can safely use it?

Ketonix came with 2 mouth pieces. Only used one and years of service. Did that put out your fire
