I'm getting ready to switch from Atkins to SB. I have been on the diet for a month and have lost 9 lbs.My biggest downfall is my vodka and diet rite at night. I hate to give it up again. Anyway.. are ther any drinkers who have still had success on this diet having a cocktail? What are your stories. Thanks

I have had a few drinks, but not on a regular basis.. So I may not be much help.. I have been on SB since 1/5 and have had maybe a total of 8-10 mixed drinks/margaritas, even beer.. I have still lost with that amount..

And I did check the Good Fats/Carbs guide and it said that gin, vodka, rum and whiskey is allowed.. And so is Diet Rite right? So they would probably be allowed together

I had a Margherita the other night at Z'Tejas (and quite ENJOYED it, I might add! :Party and it really hasn't done anything to me weight wise. I only drank something every so often in the first place, so keeping things in moderation is the key I am sure.

I tend to drink a little too regularly-vodka and soda! Along with working out 6 days per week my other goal is to only drink on weekends. Drinking really does inhibit my weight loss but my friend can drink her rum and diet cokes every day and still lose.
Your milage may vary!

I drink sometimes (rum and diet) but the problem is that it makes my sugar craving BAD. I have a hard time staying away from sugar at that point.

I'll have a glass of red wine with my evening meal now and then, usually in the weekend. Purely for health reasons, of course!

JudiB. Our stats are pretty similair!

I too like to drink Vodka and soda, preferably Fresca or Diet Squirt. I'm trying to just have it on the weekends also. I know that it is the main reason that I have problems losing faster.

I know that some people can lose and drink but the only way that is works for me is if I replace the alcohol calories for food. That is why I know that I have to cut down to weekends only.

Wee

Hi Wee!
I hear ya! I'm really trying not to drink during the week but it's soooo hard not to have my "cool off" drink when I get home. My BF tells me to do yoga instead of my cocktails to chill out after work. Well, he's way too practical! :-P
Thats why he has buns of steel and 0 body fat!

Well, I know I'm going out tonight so I'll try to hold it to 2 cocktails! (I'm such an undisciplined weenie!)
But I have been doing my Slim in 6 tapes and Firm tapes. So-that's gotta count for something, right!
Judi

The Good Fats/ Good Carbs guide is the South Beach Books sidekick.. Let me see if I can find a url.. It is a friendly guide that gives a broad idea of what we can and can't eat..

Hi All
Well I for one will have no alcohol in phase one,but in phase two I will drink 1 weekend nite.Whiskey diet ginger
I did Bill Philips about 31/2 years ago and lost over 21 inches in 12 weeks and was drinking on that program.
I think it all depends on the person, but I for one am a bit of a pirate and me loves my cocktails.
This is a way of life so for me that means drinkey poos one nite a week

I, too, used enjoy my nightly 2 scotches. Last week started teetotaling during the week, and it helps with the appetite. I think that's a big reason alcohol sabatoges weight loss is that is increases your appetite. It's tough not having that drink to wind down, however.

I must admit to enjoying my evening martini (or two!). Atkins says that hard liquor has no carbs, and though it knocks one out of ketosis for a while, liquor is the thing to drink if you must. Why does SBD say "no spirits?" I don't really get it.

I'm not sure why it sayes no spirits, in the good fats/good carbs book they are listed as "allowed". I'm finally on day 5 of no nightly cocktail and I will check on day seven and see if the stall has ended, if so I will continue through phase one without booze. After that I will have drinks again and figure out how much before I stall. Hopefully that will help me figure out how to lose and still enjoy.
