Default Can you have PCOS even after you have had children?

I'm 33 and I have three children, aged 13, 7 and 7. It was really easy to get pregnant both times. I was really fertile with the twins. I believe I still am, but I am not trying to have any more. I asked my doctor if I could have PCOS because I have some of the symptoms: Insulin resistance, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, male pattern baldness, skin tags, heavy babies (9.6 lb. and 5lb. 9oz./6 lb. 5 oz., [12 lb. together]), acne like I never even had in high school all along the jawline and on the neck, too. Also, my periods seem to be happening closer and closer together when they used to be every 28 days like clockwork. And they are heavier. My doctor (a woman) said I couldn't have PCOS because I have had children in the past. Is this true? Has anyone been diagnosed with PCOS with the symptoms I have? Thanks in advance.

Noooooo, she doesn't know what she's talking about!!!!! YOU CAN HAVE PCOS after kids. My god, it makes me angry when Drs talk complete shite (excuse the language, but that's what it IS)
go to look at the forum
http://www.soulcysters.com/ and go to the message boards and see the responses you get. I had kids and have PCOS - twins for me too, apparently you are more likely to have twins if you HAVE PCOS!!!
What a crock that Dr is talking....grrrr makes me ANGRY!!

Yeah...

what she said....

The website she gave you is very informative as well.

Some Dr's don't know what the hell they are doing! Especially when it comes to PCOS.

Thanks Ladies. Now I will get a second opinion. I assumed that since she is a female, she would understand and investigate further. I just took what she said and figured that was that. Thanks for the heads up about the twin thing, too. I didn't know that. Soulcysters is very informative. Thanks!

Yes you can get PCOS anytime. IT is not a female hormone problem, but an entire endocrine problem. I think the problem is, is there still is not a great deal of info about PCOS out there in the medical field.

Default PCOS after children

I am very suprised that Dr. would tell you that you don't have PCOS just because you have previously had other children..
I had my son at age 22 with out any diffaculty.(No infertility problems)
When he was 6 months old I went in for a physical and with an ultrasound they found that I had PCOS.. we have tried for 9 years now to have another baby, with out success..
I just started Glucofage 2 weeks ago.. I hope this works..
I am not taking it so much for fertility reasons but for weightloss..
Good luck to everyone!!

I've had two children SINCE being diagnosed with PCOS. Your doctor is very incorrect.

I've had 3 kids since my DX. My mother was never diagnosed, because no one had heard of PCOS back then, but she has every single symptom of it that I have, and more than likely she's got it as well, and besides me she's got my brother.

It's really distressing to me, the amount of cluelessness out there when it comes to PCOS. This is the most common cause of infertility among women of childbearing age, but it seems you're lucky to find a doctor who knows the first thing about it. When I was first diagnosed, I had a doctor offer me birth control pills. Fine lot of help in getting pregnant that would have been! The next doctor I saw said I had PCOS because of being overweight, just lose weight and it'd be cured. I walked out of his office crying and determined to treat it myself, and I have.

Of course, my favorite idiotic-doctor comment was the OB who asked me how I had gotten pregnant. "You see, doc, when a man and a woman really love each other..."

Both sisters were diagnosed with PCOS from ulatrasound scans after having two kids each.

I have a rather more severe case (complete with boils, beard and thinning hair) and have no kids myself.

I must have been lucky - the doc who sent me for the tests had PCOS herself. Though I had been asking now and then about my hairiness for years and no other doc had ever picked up on it. They just told me it was life, some people are hairy, get over it, that kind of thing.
