Thanks Ladies! I'm gonna have to check that gas stuff out, it's hard seeing little one in so much pain....

Any suggestions on traveling with a 2 month old. I'm worried she'll cry the whole time on the airplane. And don't know how comfortable the other passengers will feel with me whipping my boob out to "Soothe" her....

sorry to highjack your journal Lisa!

Thanks Kris and Lisa!

Jacki, no worries--we like baby talk.

I think you'll have an easier time flying with a 2 month old than with an older baby or toddler--she should sleep most of the time. I'll be flying with my 18 month old in another month and a half, bleh! I'm still nursing him, too, and will do so on the plane. Wear a t-shirt or large button down shirt over a t-shirt, as well as a nursing bra, and you should be easily to nurse her without people noticing. And even if they DO notice--screw them, seriously.

Tips for flying with a baby--try to nurse her as you take off, and descend, as the change in air pressure can hurt their ears making them cry. Sucking/swallowing milk will relieve that pain.

It gave me incentive to get moving, knowing you look that good from working out at home....
I did try to join beyondlowcarb group, but they never got back to me, on whether I could be allowed......
so maybe I will try again...
anyways thanks again, have a good day.

Default Ultimate Diet 2.0 (UD2), Week 1, Day 1

Day 1: 163.5 (LOTS of carbs last night, nom nom nom)

Training:
Depletion, full body
A: Prisoner squats, bodyweight, 60 sec (30 reps, bleh!)
B1: Leg extension, 3x22/33/33, 60" not too bad, burn at the end
B2: Leg curl, 3x22, 60" this one HURTS >
C1: Flat BB bench, 3x20/29/29, 60" not really feeling it in pecs, but arms are dying
C2: BOR, pronate grip, 3x20/29/29, 60" owwww
D1: Lateral raise, 3x8/5/5, 45" ahahahhaaaaa cry
D2: Calf raise, 3x29/42/42, 60" last set burrrrrn
E1: DB curls, 2x8#, 45" good
E2: DB kickbacks (never thought I'd ever do these again, ha), 2x8#, 45" burrrn
F: DB flat flyes, 2x8#, 60" these hurt

Cardio:
PWO, 31' ss on the st. bike At first my calves weren't sure we were up for this, but after a few minutes, settled in nicely. Read up to pg 17 in Namaste's BR journal.

Foood:
M1: coffee w/1/2c skim milk, then coffee w/1/4c skim and 10g casein pp
Ex.-depletion, cardio
M2: 200g EW, 4g butter, 7g lite mayo
M3: turkey/beef meatloaf w/ketchup
M4: 100g cocheese
M5: 170g turkey breast, 100g asparagus
M6: 100g cocheese

947 cals, 168gP, 23.5gC, 19gF

Feeling pretty good! Felt a bit wobbly after the depletion, and was getting a burn in all parts towards the end of each set (which I timed with my cell phone), some worse than others, as noted. I'm not satisfied that I hit chest fully, though. Seems like my arms gave out before I felt anything there, so I'll need to look into that. I know my pecs are "firing"--at least I *think* they are--but hmmmmm.

For tomorrow's depletion, I'm going to change a few exercises, like try split squats to hit the butt better, and incline work for chest. Maybe some other stuff, need to think on it.

Wow! Thats some depletion workout! Just curious how the isolation exercises work in your depletion plan. Most depletion plans I have seen use compound exercises because they burn more fuel and calories. Its an interesting science, isnt it?

The purpose of these depletion workouts is to truly deplete muscle glycogen. The type you are referring to are usually the "metabolic" type workouts, where you want to do high rep exericses moving quickly for maximum fat loss. Calorie and fat burning isn't the objective here (although some will happen, of course, yay); diet takes care of that part.

Using isolation exercises as much as possible will allow you to target the muscle you're trying to deplete, as you will only deplete glycogen from the muscle that's being worked. What I found out yesterday is that not having access to machines sucks in this case! My poor arms are getting hammered from having to hold dumbbells and barbells.

The point of UD2 is to fully deplete muscle glycogen during the fat loss phase, setting yourself up for a supercompensation during the carbup, and therefore allowing for a growth phase on the weekend. So hopefully you can have the best of both worlds--fat loss on the diet days, and muscle growth on the higher cal/carb days. At the very least, you'll maintain muscle, which can be hard to do when you get very lean.

I'm not what I would consider "very lean" yet, but right at the upper edge, so figured time to give it a go.

Thanks Deb!

Day
1: 163.5
2: 161.2 was expecting a bit more, but I think my doms-riddled body is holding water

Training:
Depletion, full body
A: Prisoner squats, bodyweight, 60 sec
B1: DB incl flyes, 3x16.5, 60" better, got some burn
B2: DB incl reverse row, 3x16.5, 60"/60"/45" owww still sore from yesterday (SSFY)
C: split squats to step, 3xBW, 60" ea leg good, hope I can walk tomorrow
D1: RDL's, 3x42, 60" good
D2: leg extension, 2x44, 60" stuck these in to make sure quads are done
E1: DB incl press, 2x16.5, 60" to finish off pecs
E2: Lateral raise, 2x5, 30" ahahahhaaaaa cry SSFY!
F1: Calf raise, 2x42, 60" burrrrrn SSFY!
F2: DB curls, 2x8#, 60" good SSFY!
F3: DB kickbacks, 2x8#, 60" burrrn SSFY!

Cardio:
PWO, 30' ss on the st. bike Again, first few minutes were really hard, wasn't sure I'd continue; finally got the groove about the 15 minute mark.

Foood:
M1: first thing, 5g casein and 5g whey in water slammed down, then coffee w/1c skim milk
M2: 200g EW, 4g butter, 7g lite mayo
Ex.-depletion, cardio
M3: turkey/beef meatloaf w/ketchup
M4: 100g cocheese
M5: 175g turkey breast, 150g asparagus
M6: 100g cocheese

1007 cals, 172gP, 34gC, 19gF

So I understand now why people complain about depletion workouts. I didn't feel nauseas, but it hurt and I was BITCHY! Didn't help the little ones kept wanting to bug me; usually I have more patience. Ouch. Luckily, I'm done with this for the week--hopefully the carby days will see me blissfully happy.

Also didn't help that I had a moderate headache most of the day that 1st and 2nd choice drugs didn't completely kill (not bad enough for 3rd choice). However, post cardio and food and it's finally gone.

Ah ha, it all makes sense now! Thanks for explaining that to me. Its great to learn new theories in exercise science.
I giggled when I saw you write about your "DOMS riddled" body. I know the feeling..sore and bitchy. You are doing an AWESOME job Dane. I'm so impressed at how dedicated you are, even with a busy schedule and little ones. KUTGW!
