Default L-Glutamine..pill or powder......

I just bought a bottle of L-Glutamine. Pills....500mg per pill.

I've read that quite a few of you take the powder form...is this better? I should finish my bottle as it was 24.95 plus tax.

I haven't been able to find other dosages that compare to mine...you are all taking around 6 grams.

Is 500mg = 5grams?

This is soooo confussing. ALSO...whats the diff between L glutamine and glutamine..what does this "L" stand for.

500mg = .5g You need two of those pills for one gram. Powder really is a better deal - 10g of glutamine would mean a whole lotta pill popping.

There is no difference between glutamine and l-glutamine. The "L" in front of any amino acid means that it is naturally occuring. The body can use only amino acids that have the structure that bends light to the left (levo). These amino acids are designated by the letter "L" preceding their names (this distinguishes them from the D or synthetic amino acids.)

Why would the dose for this only be 500mg per day!!

sooo..500mg=.5 g

1g=2 pills....6g=12 PILLS??

Okay...I need suggestions on what to do here...crappola..12 is alot of pills to swallow...I could give them to my daughter...she certainly won't need 12....maybe 2 a day.

lol....the ONE I took was a waste of time....

I went through the same issue last month. It is more economical to buy the glutamine powder, and make sure there is nothing else in it (sugars and stuff). I saved my glutamine pills for when I am out of powder or on the go.

BTW, does anyone know if glutamine degrades after you mix it? I have the powder and if I dose my gym bottle in the morning, have I still got active product in there byt the time I hit the gym at 4?

Thanks,
Friday

Default Glutamine In Water

Hi!

Apparently you SHOULD drink glutamine SOON after mixing it:

"It doesn’t really matter if you mix L-Glutamine with a shake, with juice, with water, etc. Any of those would be fine. Keep in mind, however, that L-Glutamine is not all that stable in water, so if you want the full benefits from the supplement, do not mix it until you are ready to drink it."

- From the EAS website (they manufacture a glutamine powder)

Best of luck!

Default Also of note: Glutamine Peptides

Hi!

"Q: What is the difference between Glutamine Peptides and straight L-Glutamine?

"A: The major difference between the two is that glutamine peptides are more stable in liquids, and in the gut. Free form L-Glutamine can begin to quickly break down if it’s mixed with a liquid and not consumed immediately, and it’s also easily recognized by the gut. As such, much of the L-Glutamine you take in may be absorbed and utilized by the gut before it ever reaches the muscle cells. This is by no means a bad thing, but when you are engaging in resistance exercise, you want to get as much glutamine to the muscle cells as possible, and the best ways to do that are by using glutamine peptides or glutamine precursors. Glutamine peptides are more stable when mixed in liquid, and due to the form they are in, they are not so easily recognized by the gut. This means that more of the actual glutamine will make it’s way into the bloodstream, and thus into the muscle cell, which as a bodybuilder is where you really want it."

I thought you might also find this helpful!

Thanks for all the tips.
I went out and bought MORE. I found the powder...$50.00
Reads 1 tsp=3gms

I took 2 tsp. I think I'll take another tsp before bed...my muscles are so sore I can hardly move.

Can I go as high as 9-10gms a day? Should I remain at 6gms?

I was instructed that YES on an empty stomach, and NO more than 15 g per day. I stay no more than 10.

I was told it is possible to overdose on L-Glutamine (as it is with protein).

Glutamine is safe in doses as large as 40mg a day.

Quote:
Glutamine supplements are well tolerated at levels up to at least 20 grams per day and intakes of as much as 40 grams per day should induce no significant adverse effects outside of mild gastrointestinal discomfort. As with any isolated amino acid supplement, consumption in divided 2-4 divided doses throughout the day should increase total body stores without posing significant absorption issues.

Cin, you can read more at... you guessed it. Supplementwatch.com

For the purposes that you will be using it (muscle recovery) it is best to be taken after your workout in the A.M. (with your protein shake is good) and in the evening (before bed as glutamine helps in the release of human growth hormone)

thanks Nat - that put my mind to rest.

I was told that OD'ing was possible by the owner of a supplement store and himself a bodybuilder!! Just goes to show you that just because they are lifting doesn't make them all experts

Just FYI, I'm taking 15g/day. Half in my drink in the morning, half in something before I go to bed. I'm pretty sore in my calves, but just sort of low-grade achy everywhere else, and I know for sure it would be much worse w/o the Glutamine!

Cheers,

Friday
