I'm not all that crazy about the summers here either. But I'd rather put up with our summers than the winters up north.........ugh.

anyone in central texas (austin, san marcos, san antonio etc) have suggestions on a place for low cost groceries? Farmers markets here are more expensive then the supermarket organics!

Been thinking of going to one of the farms but no clue wich to go to. Also been suggested to try an asian market, but again no clue wich are good.

Any help would be appreciated.

meggb, I've heard that MT Supermarket in Austin on Lamar is pretty good. I don't know about prices but I've *heard* the selection is good.

I've found that Sprout's, Sunharvest, and Sunflower markets usually have really good prices on a lot of stuff. Better than HEB.

I went into the Sprouts in Round Rock recently and thought they had really pretty produce. Wish Temple had either a Sprouts or large HEB Central Market. Our HEB is definitely a B-class store.

I miss my Kroger down on the Gulf Coast! No Kroger stores up here though. Dallas still has them. I think HEB has effectively squeezed them out of Central Texas.

I did go to MT supermarket. Not bad for pork, personally don't eat seafood so not great there, and the smell is a bit much in there.

I miss Kroger too, although we have 5 HEB between my house and my work and they aren't TOO bad, they aren't the best either.

I will have to check sprouts out.

hi!
I live near Houston, in the Clear Lake area. I have been to Tookies and love it. I am so glad they rebuilt it after Ike.

With foods like onion rings, tortilla chips and so on, I find it's easier if I don't try to eat "just one". I just try to focus on what I CAN eat and enjoy my burger.

That is exactly where I live. Just north of NASA off of Space Center Blvd.

I went to Tookies one time before it got flooded.

Hi

I posted here in 2009, and now I'm back at it. I live in the Dallas area.

We have some good markets here - some expensive ones like Central Market where you can find 20 different varieties of every food imaginable, and Whole Foods, all the way down to the Wal-Marts, so it's pretty easy to find what I need.

Good morning!

I'm Debbie and I live in the little North Austin suburb of Leander. Mom of 5, with 3 still home, the youngest being 13. Just saw this thread and thought I'd jump in and introduce myself.
