Welllll
I don't have the time to research the folks who wrote this fantasy because I'm almost out the door for work.

I'm a Type 2 and I can tell you right now I have been on that diet - Pritikin - and my D. was totally out of control except for the meds I was on. Could not reduce the meds one iota. On lo-carb, hi-protein I take no meds at all.

or...perhaps the calories were so low...didn't notice....gotta go...but otherwise how would they lose 2-3 pounds a week on high carbs? Sounds fishy and not sustainable to me...

I did Pritikin in the 70's. It is very low calorie. I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks (I was also young). If weight loss will aide your BG control...then this could possibly work while you were losing weight...can't imagine it being too healhy for a lifetime diet...it has very little protein and fat. And it tastes awful!!!!

Shoot...diets like that probably contributed to my Type II dx!

Being aware of all the options is not a bad thing, Picaboo, but please keep in mind that this is a low carb support forum first and foremost and this subforum is in support of diabetics who low carb.
Many, if not most, of us have already gone the route in the link posted above and done miserably on it.

Default Hi

I was diagnosed with Syndrome X about 3 years ago. The reason I am low carb is that on a low fat diet they put me on I became much worse and was hospitalized because by BP was oscillating so high. Low carb saved me and I'm here to stay. My HemA1c is now under 6 w/o meds and
my BP is 110/58. I still take Metformin if I have an occassional high carb day but I feel so good now I'd never go back to low fat!!!
