Question Do my medications stall weight loss?

Hope someone can answer this or point me in the right direction...

I know some medication stall weight loss. I wonder if some of mine do...

Synthroid... for hypothyroid
Glucophage... for Diabetes Type 2
Metroprolol .... for high blood pressure
Lasix ... for water retention
Amaryl... for Diabetes Type 2

Also, I have been reading about Calcium and am wondering what is the best type....coral, chelated or carbonate?

Thanks!

Hello!

Synthroid: not sure. I think it depends on whether or not they've gotten your thyroid levels stabilized.
Glucophage: should help. It helps your body use your insulin better.
Metroprolol: not sure
Lasix: shouldn't stall, AFAIK.
Amaryl: makes you churn out more insulin, so could stall.

You're under a doctor's supervision, right? With this WOL, your dosages may need to be reduced or even eliminated. It naturally reduces your blood pressure and acts as a diuretic, so taking a diuretic and blood pressure pills on top of that can cause problems. So do check in with your doctor. (Wouldn't it be nice to get off those meds? )

Have you checked out our diabetes forum on this site? It's under "Low-carb health and technical forums".

About the calcium, chelated is generally best, since it's aborbed better. AFAIK, there's no evidence that coral calcium is particularly special.

HTH.

Thanks Kristine for the information.

I am under a doctor's care and will be having blood work done next week. Am anxious to see what he says about reducing some of the meds.

Kristine is right about being under a MD's care with these meds. Glad to hear you're going to be having blood levels drawn.

Also ask your MD about potassium. Lasix is one of the meds than can pull potassium, but I"m not sure what the Metroprolol will do, so it's very important to check with your physician before taking potassium!

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Cindy

I'm taking Metoprolol and Glucophage, too. They have not stalled me, but the glipizide I used to take for blood sugars was a bad stall maker.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks everyone for the really good information. Had a really good day today. No cravings! Started taking L-Glutamine as recommended by Karen. It's really helpful to have all this support. Thanks again!
