Welcome!
Hi Falemb,
Glad you found this support group, I hope you'll feel at home here. *You* know by past experience that LC WOE works for you, and that high carb consumption leads to high Blood Glucose. Atkins teaches that as long as BG is good (IMHO 10 & under should do it)then it is ok to be in ketosis. Ketosis is only a danger if BG gets very high (say 13+ to be on the safe side) Ketones are the byproduct of the body burning fat for energy needs. Diabetic ketosis is a result of extreme insulin resistance, the body being unable to burn carbs for fuel so it turns to fat for energy instead. Ketones in conjunction with high BG is dangerouse to health & life I'd recommend reading DANDR, Atkins explains this quite well.
I'm diabetic too, and was in a similar situation as you this winter, BG creeping up, ditto my weight, and at the end of March started Atkins. From the start I dropped the daily 5mg of glyberide and my BG has been as good or better with LCing as it was before with the meds. My Dr wasn't supportive of Atkins for me, however she is happy about my weight loss & BG levels. Having good control of BG feels so good.
Of course losing weight feels *really* good too.
Best wishes for a successful LC journey. Ruth
