Default A Cat In Hell's Chance Getting Pregnant On Atkins

I started the Atkins program 7 days ago and I read some articles that stipulated that there is a cat in hell's chance of getting pregnant on Atkins. I am really concerned about this as we are trying for another baby.

I would really like to hear from anybody who has gotten pregnant while on Atkins if was more difficult and any tips and advice they may have. I would also like to hear from those who are pregnant on Atkins and how they made the transition.

There are quite a few members who have got pregnant doing Atkins and I'm sure a few will come forward soon.

I've also read articles to this effect. Just because mice become less fertile when eating nothing but protein this doesn't mean that humans on a high fat, sufficient protein, low carb diet like Atkins can't get pregnant - they do!

I did atkins about three years ago, and I got pregnant while doing it. I had been on the depo shot and I went off of it to lose a few lbs ( I couldn't lose any weight while I was on the depo shot) anyway I did get pg while doing atkins, when you do get pg, don't go crazy like I did, I gained all the 30lbs I had lost plus some. but I KNOW it's not impossible. I think it actually helped some people to get pg when before atkins they had a real hard time at concieving.

For many women with PCOS the low carb lifestyle has actually made it more possible for them to both lose weight and conceive. Whether you read it online on in a magazine it is best to check out the facts before believing what you read. It is more prevalent on the Internet than in print media that you will find bogus information, but it is still a good idea to check out the facts. There are no rules that say what you put up on the internet has to be true...

Insulin resistance makes it hard to concieve. Low carb diets and LC WOE's incl. Atkins, stabilises insulin level. Stabile insulin level makes it easier to be pregnant. I know several girls in Norway (also with PCOS) that has gotten pregnant while on Atkins and in ketosis. Their specialists all say it's because of insulin levels.... This is also a known fact at several fertility clinics in Norway, due to the research by Dr. Fedon Lindberg (he's the "Dr. Atkins" of Norway).

HMMM, well, I got pregnant while doing atkins, using birth control and I was still nursing to boot so I would say that article probably isn't very accurate. Oh and I've also stayed LC (maint) during the pregnancy and it's gone perfect. I am 35 weeks with a 15 lb gain and have had less heartburn or problems that I had with other pregnancies.

BDOOA,
Last September I became pregnant a few months after I started Low-Carbing. I didn't remain on the Low_Carb plan, but grains and potatoes weren't my main sources of food. I was a fruit pig. The first 3 months I craved Apples, as they were in season, the second trimester was salad cravings.. wanted fresh things, and the third trimester was Large Naval Oranges (of which I would eat 6+ a day) With my pregnancy I went up 32 pounds.. before the second week after my baby was born I was back down the 32 pounds. The doctor said it was mostly fluid. I did eat rice, potato, bread... but not as a main source of food. Now I am back where I started Atkins a year ago.. starting with the same weight.. and goal. I need to get it off now before I am cooking those "instant" meals for my baby next year.. the way many mothers gain weight-eating what their child does not.

So, can you get pregnant? I can't see why not!!

I have PCOS and have been doing Atkins for over a year. My cycles used to be about 45 days. Since losing weight and continuing to low carb, my cycles are 28 days apart.

I believe if I were TTC I would have no problems. It took me 5 years to concieve my son without low carbing because of my PCOS.

Heck, if that's the case, there should be no problem considering how easily cats get preggers

Atkins will definitely help your chances if you have PCOS, and as you see, a lot of people have gotten pregnant on Atkins. There was a study dealing with mice and high protein diets that suggested a small disadvantage, but that was mice on high protein, and you're a human on high fat.

Remember to take your vitamins (especially folic acid) and that Atkins recommends that pregnant women eat maintenance level carbs (losing weight while pregnant can be rough on the fetus).

Good luck getting knocked up!
