Interesting article below. I always thought Atkins worked by suppressing appetite and avoiding the highs and lows of high carbohydrate diet, and of course like any diet or way of eating involving restriction of certain types of food. I do not buy into the induction & ketosis theory.

The article suggests that protein is what suppresses appetite. But it didn't look at the role of insulin. A high fat and/or high protein diet does not stimulate insulin secretion. Low calorie diets all contain less carb, similar to fat or protein diets. Other studies show that low calorie diets work about the same as high fat diets for weight loss. Any diet that suppesses insulin will cause weight loss.

The article says the protein-eaters ingested fewer calories than the fat or low-carb eaters. In all cases the body is producing less insulin.

Thank you, kaypeeoh. Yes, LC does work by ketosis and insulin reduction.

This is just more junk research by prejudiced reporters.
