The expression "healthy whole grains" drives me bonkers. I get SICK if I eat them, always have. In fact, whole grains, any grains would kill me. Eating keto, no sugar, no starches, very few vegetables (only a select few green leafy ones), this way of eating makes me feel fantastic, steers me to my ideal weight and body composition, and creates a state where I no longer overeat.

Almost every person I know who is near my age (and often decades younger) is overweight and having health problems that require loads of meds, and they can't do any activity. I'm 70 and take no medications, I exercise a lot and lift weights, I go mountain biking, hiking, I ski in winter, I'm virtually never sick and I have tons of energy every day. No one will convince me that how I eat is in any way unhealthy. It's the OTHER diets that are unhealthy.

When I started low carb back in 2003, I had some co-workers within a decade of my age that I still run into (small town) even if they left that job. So I've seen a little cross-section of middle-adulthood health in this century.

It's as frightening as any zombie movie.

I had good success with Atkins, dropped lots of weight, and still am on zero prescriptions despite my health struggles. Yet ALL the others have seemingly every woe Western Medicine has a pill for, and that is so very dang many.

I don't want to take a buch of pills, what kind of existance is that?
I know that most all of them are on all of the stuff advertised on TV. They never get better, only sicker. I was just saying this to DH. None of those pills cures any of them.

I'm with you!!!

Getting there is a challenge. Many hurdles. Docs seem to cause me more problems than they solve. And as a carbaholic, high carb foods will always be a vile addiction to manage.

Self help has been the route to better health.

Yeah ^^ this!

My dad, 79 this Nov, has taken up "other people's health" as a primary conversational topic. I laughed once and joked to him, "Dad, you'd think every single person in the family in my generation (~45-60) and yours (61+) is about to keel over!" -- but then I realized ... yeah that's actually about it.
