Default Scalloped Turnips

Scalloped Turnips (from southern living)

3 medium turnips, peeled and sliced
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons pork rind flour
1/2 cups cream
1/2 cup mayo
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup shredded mild Cheddar cheese

Cook turnips uncovered in boiling salted water over for 15 minutes or until tender. Drain; transfer to a lightly greased 2-quart casserole.
Melt butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; blend in flour, and cook 1 minutes, stirring constantly. Gradually stir in cream and mayo; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Stir in salt and pepper.
Pour sauce over turnips; sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes. Yield 6 servings

thanks to karen for helping me modify this to LC

thanks for this recipe. I've been missing au gratin potatoes and this fits the bill for an alternative. I'm going off to make it now...

So, I followed your recipe and I only had 2 turnips so I substituted a kohlrabi instead--wow, kohlrabi is great for this recipe!!! Maybe try it sometime??? It's a much milder veggie than turnip but with the same texture. YUM!!!

Thanks again for the recipe--I could actually eat the cheese sauce on it's own (kept licking the spoon--good thing I'm the only one eating the dish )
