Default Milk Challenges

Staying away from milk products, as I'm pretty darn sure I've developed an intollerance. Can't (or shouldn't) do soy milk, as I take synthroid and soy products can interfere.

What other options are there?

Not an issue for me, as I don't miss the milk. But just curious.

Thanks!

Shirley

There is a new Low Carb milk product at Super Walmart. There are also Lactose reduced and Lactose free milks.

What could be the best thing though is Goat's milk. It seems to be ok for those with sensativities, it doesn't contain the hormone that comes from female cows and causes some people to react. It is also only 8g net carbs per 8oz cup. You can find it for sell next to the regula rmilks in most stores.

I was lactose intolerant for many years, and what I remembered most was a discussion online about what brands of goat milk were the least "goaty."
Don't know about you, but that was enough for me to not even try goats milk.
However, I was blown away by the fact that on Atkins cheese and yogurt don't seem to bother me!
My SIL has the same thing happening to her. So you might go a little slowly with dairy (I know what can happen) but it might work for you too.

I was about the same. Lactose intolerent. I notice even now that if I have to much dairy I stall weight loss wise, and most dairy gives me reflux, but I can tolerate it much better now. I wonder if our bodies digest the lactose differently after a while on low car.

Goat milk and goat milk yogurt I havn't noticed anything more then a very mild taste. In the milk it's hardly noticable. Some cheeses though are very strong tasting. It's similar in taste to lamb meat.

I know I find goat cheese unpleasant. It seems I can tolerate cheese and whipped cream. And my research seems to indicate some people can tolerate but in certain quantities. Moderation seems the protocol here.

Thanks for the suggestion.

A type of milk can be made from almonds. There are fancy machines that can do this with soy or nuts...

http://www.naturestapestry.com/soymilkmaker.html

Or you can make it yourself by ssoaking the nuts
then blending and straining them but it's not quite as good or easy.

I've had milk made from hemp seeds that was quite tasty too.

My aunt and uncle raise goats for milk, and one of my favorite childhood memories is having fresh chocolate goats milk, so good. I dont think it's "goaty" tasting at all, it's definately higher in fat content then cow's milk, and therefore must be a bit lower in carb? Goats milk makes the most incredible chocolate milk...how I miss that... I know one day i'm gonna just break down and have some with SF chocolate syrup

If you are using small amounts, such as in coffee or cooking, there is also coconut milk. Yummy

It was hard for me in the beginning to lay off the milk because I used to drink a gallon in about 3 days, but now I really don't think about it. I haven't tried it since I started though.

Almond milk is really yummy. My mother makes it from scratch all the time.
