Exclamation dried cranberries..help!!

I have just recently purchased 1kg dried cranberries, thinking that they were low carb, however, a phone call to the supplier today and a subsequent e mail from them with the product specifications has me confused and i need some help!![this was from a bulk shop and had no details on original packaging]

The information states that the package contains cranberries and high fructose corn syrup [groan] but it lists carb content as 8.9 gms per 100 gms,
sugars as 4.5 gms and fibre as 8.2 gms.

Two questions here.. 1.This carb content is way off isn't it?[I checked a carb counter on a web site and it stated dried cranberries 82.36gms per 100 grams!!!]

2.I am loathe to toss these delectable morsels out [!]..Do you think if i soak them in water until they rehydrate, then pour off the water that it will get rid of the syrup and high carbs..or should i cook them and toss the water?
I would really appreciate your help here guys.

This is too low for dried cranberries. Fresh are 12.68 grams of carbohydrate and 4.2 grams fiber. Because the cranberries are dried, the sugar is concentrated even more in the same amount.

That sounds more accurate.

The fructose would enter the cranberry during soaking/cooking so if it were me, I wouldn't use them.

Default Tossing those cranberries

Thanks Karen,
I'm going to close my eyes and think of something else as i hear the sound of the cranberries hitting the bottom of the trash can!! What a waste.
I did allow myself a sneaky nibble just to see what they tasted like..DELICIOUS!!
That will teach me next time to ask questions before parting with my cash!!
Thanks again. Kiwigal

Give them away! You must know someone who would appreciate them.

Default cranberry appreciation!!!

But Karen,..having tasted them now, i am reluctant to part with them!!...I removed them from the fridge to dispose of them..but hesitation set in,along with the memory of the delicious sweet/tart taste of them, and I confess I put them gently back!!!
I may use them "sparingly " in some recipes, a quarter cup finely chopped would be delish in the Breakfast nut bread [recipe on Low Carb Luxury site] or they may even lend themselves to the nutty cheese muffin recipe that i saw on this site and printed off the other day!!
Of course using them this sparingly and infrequently their lifespan may run out[I'm sure my 3 kids will devour them given half the chance!]
I will NOT let them be my downfall!!
My little taste so far is my only "cheat" in 10 months of low carbing!!I Will be good!!
Thanks again. Kiwigal.

From a ketosis perspective, fructose is your worst enemy.

Default I'm being good!

Scott123,
I haven't succumbed to the wee red beasties! I have been putting a few in my kids porridge every morning [it's winter here],and the supply is dwindling!
Thanks for your reply.
