Default What makes soda so addictive?

It seems to be sugar or sweetener, caffeine, and the fizz.

I don't know how other people got indoctrinated into drinking this stuff or why they think it's so good but I hated soda throughout my childhood and was constantly browbeat into drinking it, which I did not but that didn't stop people from acting as if there was something wrong with me that I didn't like any of it!

At 6 years old with my girlscout group we went to the Coca-cola bottling corp where I had to fight off adults (exects in suits) who were trying to force this stuff on me. Three times I answered politely..no Thank you then finally the forth time I told them again No thank you I HATE COKE!

I actually like the fizz which is why I will drink Perrier but the liquid soda (of all types) tastes like a nasty medicine to me.

I never really cared for the fizz that much. I drank sodas when they were available when I was young, but that was really only because it was such a rare treat to have them available at all, really only a couple times a year, if that often. On the rare occasions when we had soda, it was always ginger ale, root beer, or orange soda, at least until I was a teenager, which was when I finally tasted a lemon-lime (sprite/7-up) or cola. I never really cared for the cola flavor at all, and I can't remember the last time I had any kind of soda, probably close to 20 years ago now.

So I have no idea why sodas are so addictive to some people, although I suspect it's at least partly a matter of having access to sodas on a fairly regular basis from a young age.

I have one family member who became addicted to Coke as a teenager and it was very obvious because if he didn't have it, it was like a drug addict who need their fix.

I do find Coke to be medicinal during stomach upset but I haven't had it since morning sickness well over 10 years ago. My mom is super addicted and drinks it every day, although she's cut down a lot. She can't drink tap water and she developed this addiction when she had severe morning sickness (like me). Mine did not stick, though.

I used to drink the fizzy stuff, grew up on it, but I finally “got off” it about a year ago. But—on a hot summer day out on the golf course, when the beverage cart comes by, a diet Coke is just the best.

Good one.

While this covers a few points, it is also misleading and incomplete.

The sugars that linger in the mouth feeding cavity making microbes is worse than the acidity which is quickly buffered by saliva.

The 2.5pH is the same as stomach acid. Our GI is designed to cope.

The soda has components that get into the blood and must be buffered to keep the blood in its normal pH zone. IT GIVES UP MINERALS IN THE BONE, CALCIUM, TO BUFFER THE pH. That means demineralizing bone.

Imo this is why older oeople have ostroporosis.... too much soda and not enough bone builders like vit D, vitA, vit K2, etc, and minerals like phosphorus, calcium and magnesiom and potassium. All components to build bone, oh and collagen, too.

At 85 my mother is laying down bone. We all can do this. No drugs , no soda, yes k2.

.........

After hours of hard work delicious cold well water beats everything else.

When I gave up Diet Coke I was having dreams about it! For months.

Ms Arielle - what kind of k2 does your mom take? I take the mk4 as I found the mk7 not as helpful.

I dont know which.

I take mk4. Havent found mk7. Though a few specialized foods covers all of them. I need to add natto to my plate. Just choke it down if need be.

Here's a link to the company that makes the vitamin K supplement I take. It provides the following:

The capsule has 25 mg of MK-4, 0.5 mg of MK-7, 5 mg of K1 and 2 mg of Astaxanthin.

It provides more K than anything else I've researched. It's an excellent source, and the website has a ton of health-related information all about K and derivatives. Here's the link:
