Default Straighten Me Out on FBG, Please...

I thought it was supposed to be your lowest number of the day. Mine is repeatedly higher and comes down, with a really low carb meal.

Very common. It's exactly the same for me too. If you google something called Dawn Phenomenon, I believe that will "explain" it as much as it can be explained.

For non-diabetics, I don't really think it is Dawn Phenomenon. It's a normal state when you're low carbing.

This is a good article. I too experience my highest readings after fasting in the mornings, about 5AM is when I wake usually. I am NOT diagnosed T2D but perhaps borderline.

That's good to know. In all the time I've been reading this forum and in ASDLC in the days of usenet, no one ever said this. My fasting # is 108. I wonder what I can get it down to when I eat, at noon.

I'll read it but also, it's not just in the morning with my first number. It's throughout the day, between meals. I am doing 16 hrs. fasting/8 hrs. eating window.

Maybe the 'dawn' part is just an expression.

Same here, with no diagnosis. I often forget to check it when I first get up. It's not unusual for me to be at the same number as morning, between meals but later in the day.

Check out Peter at Hyperlipid who talks about why this is normal for low carbers.

Clarification of FBG

http://high-fat-nutrition.blogspot....on%20of%2 0FBG

A LC eater has a FBG of 100 (5.5mmol/l), technically pre diabetic, but blood insulin is 3.5 IU/ml. This is VERY low. Glucose is in very short supply but blood glucose is maintained by physiological insulin resistance, ie the muscles are full of triglycerides assembled from free fatty acids (NEFA) from lipolysis. The LC eater has breakfast, with enough protein from his eggs or particularly casein from his yoghurt to raise insulin ... This inhibits lipolysis ... In the early hours of the morning there is a growth hormone surge and NEFA from lipolysis peak early morning to give insulin resistant muscles and an elevated FBG.

...

A SAD eater has a FBG of 100 (5.5), prediabetic, because he is prediabetic. His muscles and liver are permanently and pathologically insulin resistant. His pancreas is cranking out 50 IU/ml of insulin to just keep that FBG in the 5.5mmol/l range...

I will. thanks a lot.
edit:
I read it and since he isn't American, the unfamiliar glucose number readings were harder for me to relate to, and it was a bit biochemically dense for me, but I did get the concept he was explaining. I appreciate the help.

OK, so I'm experimenting with IF and I didn't eat right at noon. I finished eating 1:00, so I just tested for a two hour mark. I did also test right before eating and got a reading of 104. Now, it is at 102. I ate three runny fried eggs with turmeric, salt and a slice of cheese, three strips of bacon, half an avocado with mayo, salt and onion powder. I finished up with 1 oz plain greek yougurt w/my liquid multi stirred in and topped w/2 TB spray cream. I estimate this meal as just under 10 g/carb. I drank and energy drink powder with some club soda. I will likely start a log in my long-neglected journal.

Mine never is, but that's because of the Dawn Phenomenon. If I got long enough without eating after waking, I can get my FB to be the lowest of the day, but in the normal state of affairs it's usually higher than my regular through the day readings.
