Question Have you got the time?

Pause for thought on Wednesday.

As you toss the salad and grill the steak for supper stop for a fraction of a second and look at your digital watch.

At 8.02pm on February 20 this year it will be an historic moment in time.

It will not be marked by the chiming of any clocks or the ringing of bells, but at that precise time, on that specific date, something will happen which has not occurred for 1,001 years and will never happen again. As the clock ticks over from 8.01pm on Wednesday, February 20, time will, for sixty seconds only, read in perfect symmetry 2002, 2002, 2002, or to be more precise - 20:02, 20/02, 2002.

The last occasion that time read in such a symmetrical pattern was long before the days of the digital watch and the 24-hour clock - at 10.01am on January 10, 1001. And because the clock only goes up to 23.59, it is something that will never happen again.

Stand by, don't let the greens boil over, get excited but don't do anything silly...........

(Of course, in the USA it'll be 20:02, 02/20, 2002, which is a slightly different kind of symmetry....)

This is kind of neat...but I'm starting to think it is quite a phenomenon, all the radio stations here have been talking about it for days!

....I might just pay 20:02 some attention this evening

Lesley

hey just realised - I get to "experience" it before everyone else, being ahead on time and all

Of course the only real time is GMT. Which means 2 mins after Three for my friends on the East Coast.

And there goes Lesley getting ahead of herself again.

As for West Canada? I think you are probably in a time warp and will have to wait untill sun comes out to read the dial.

Yo friends in West Coast USA. When mickey's hands reach the big 8 and.......

Fact: there is no sun on Canada's Wet Coast, er West Coast. They will have to rely on news reports of the event.

Default Won't we get the same idea in 2112?

Won't we have a string that reads back and forwards the same at 9:21PM on December 21, 2112? ie 21:12 21/12, 2112--using a non US date format of course.

OH NO!!!!!

Well, perhaps you can take solace in the fact that we truly don't know what time it really is in life. With our ancestors changing the calendar throughout history.. I'll just bet you didn't miss the moment at all!!
