Default Top Chef Masters

If anyone else watches this, tonight's episode was instructive. The chefs were challenged to make favorites like fried chicken or meatball subs with many fewer calories for The Biggest Loser contestants.

Suvir Saran, who is a vegetarian chef, made a cheeseburger completely vegetarian that didn't go over well. When he served it, he made a grandstanding speech about the "obesity pandemic" and tried to blame it on meat - red meat in particular with evangelical zeal. Even though the burger wasn't well liked, he insisted that he had to do it.

The show's host, Curtis Stone, challenged Saran's belief that meat is the cause of our current issues. Most of the dishes attempted to cut calories by cutting fat - few attempted to cut carbs. But these are chefs, and I wouldn't expect them to be experts.

It seems people like this Chef keep insisting that red meat and fats are the cause of the obesity epidemic, when every graph I have seen clearly shows that in the last 30 years the average consumption of red meat and saturated fat has declined on a steady basis...However the rate of obesity and diabetes has increased steadily...So in the words of Dr.Phil..."So hows that workin' for ya????"
