it's actually sunny here today wooohooo....i'm off to italy in 4 weeks and i can't wait to go but the thoughts of all that pizza, pasta, bread and ice cream is worrying me. i am very determined to stay away from all i just hope i feel the same when i'm actually there. i love this way of eating ( lc ) and i would be so upset with myself if i slip now. any tips would be much appreciated.

never been there, hope you have a wonderfull time.
i can see where you're comming from with regards all the
pizza and pasta,i think it will be determination, and the thought maybe
for how easy it will be to put yourself backwards so quickly.
i try and think to myself, yeah it would be nice, but i don't need it.

Italian food is one of the best cuisines in the world, but it's not a dough base or some white flour mad into pasta that makes it like that, it's the sauces! One of the best meals I ever had there was salmon in a cream sauce - ideal for Atkins!! The only thing you might be worried about is not being given a choice to have a dish which does NOT have bread or pasta, but in that case, they will ALWAYS have a salad option. Enjoy! I'm off to France in 2 weeks. Agh, chocolate croissants!!!

You can eat LC in Italy no problem, so long as you go to full restaurants rather than purely pizza or pasta places.
There is always a meat and a fish course you can order from, and green salads, (Insalata) and cooked veg (Vedure).
You don't say which part of Italy you are visiting. Roast meat is very popular in Tuscany, but they add a huge amount of salt, so watch out for that. Lots of excellent salami and olives of course. Choose a starter or light lunch from the antipasti - artichokes, cold meats, olives, etc. The further south you go, the more likely you are to find carb heavy menus - pasta and pizza with tomato sauces come from the south, because in general the area is much poorer than the north.
Watch out for the soups which often have bread and pasta in them. The bread is unsalted, mostly white, and often unyeasted (soda bread) so lots of people find it unpalatable anyway Just try to keep away from the Gelati bars (ice cream) and the Tiramisu and you should do fine.

Thank you eme, kimberly and neo for your wonderful suggestions. I am going to san remo which is north italy. i was there last year and after all the pizza and pasta i craved steak . it can be difficult eating out there as very few menus are in english and not many of the locals speak enlish either. all i saw on the menu was angus beef and i knew this was steak and with a price of 7.60euro i was in heaven. the waiter brought this huge steak which was THE best steak i have ever eaten in my life. when i finished i turned to my fiance and said, i cant believe that huge steak was 7.60, thats amazing value. To my shock and horror when the bill came it was 7.60an ounce, the steak was 10oz..the most expensive meal i have ever had in my life and one i wont be repeating lol

Hi Amanda, welcome, how come you have loads of posts if you just started? God I'm so nosey. Is this a second attempt or have you just done loads of research prior to starting? I wish I had actually - I did induction without counting veg and herb/spice carbs properly - didn't know they had so many. So I've had to do it again 'properly'. Either way, hope your journey is a good one and we can al help each other along :-)
