Default UK restaurants - Easiest one's to dine in?

Hello Uk'ers, hopefully there's still a few of you hanging around!

My biggest culprit for falling off this WOE is eating out. My boyfriend loves going out for dinner and I usually get so anxious and worried about what to order that I end up just completely indulging and going off plan. Have any of you got favourite restaurants that you find it easy to dine in with no fuss? And so that you don't have to tell them 100 million things to change about the dish you're choosing?

It'd help me out so much! Thanks.

I went to an all-you-can-eat chinese buffet place last week. If you can resist temptation quite well when it's all laid out in front of you, you can pile your plate with meat and veggies until you're fit to burst!

Otherwise, try to stick to the steak/fish/chicken option and tell them you want veggie/salad instead of chips! Eating out is really difficult until you've been sticking to the diet for a while and genuinely don't crave carbs anymore. Maybe you could set up a little non-food reward for yourself if you stick to the low-carb food when you go out (treating yourself to some new make up/accessories?)

The posher restaurants are easy enough to eat in as you can chose what you want. It's the cheap and cheerful ones find difficult - eg eating at pubs - as everything seems carb-based / carb-accpmpanied or drenched in sugar sauces.

For something cheap and cheerful though, I like the Nando's chain - which specialises in marinaded grilled chicken - as you can have yummy grilled chicken and a big salad

Harvester Restaurants are always a good bet.

Lots of Chicken, Rib and Steak dishes and you can always forsake the chips/potatoes for heaps of salad which you can help yourself to.

I think La Tasca would be a good place to try too:

I'd second La Tasca I went there at the weekend, it was very easy to eat low carb, they had fantastic aubergine and spinach tapas.

I'm not sure that the 2 glasses of red wine or glass of Pacharan did me any favours though.

I find Toby carveries quite handy - roast ham/beef/turkey then you serve yourself with low carb veggies and can easily avoid the potatoes. I then ask for butter in my local one and have that instead of gravy.

Chinese buffet places are manageable, but only if you have iron willpower as the vast majority of meat dishes will contain buckets of sugar and cornflower. Usually there will be some plain fried chicken somewhere though.

Any indepenant cafe or greasy spoon that does fry ups. Usually it's quite easy to just get bacon and eggs without the carby beans and sausages etc. Supermarket cafes and chains are often nowhere near that flexible though.

Kebab shops - all our local ones do kebab meat with salad in a tray - it's even up on the board.

Nandos is very handy as the menu is pick and mix. A chicken salad is easy to get, and the coleslaw doesn't contain dairy (at least the last time I asked it didn't - the staff had a folder with the ingredients for everything on behind the counter)

Greek restaurants are very good for grilled chicken/lamb and salad. I've also done tapas a few times.

I find in most independant or posher english style food/pub chains that you can ask for no potatoes, or for salad instead of veg, and so on. Not so easy in the cheaper places though.

Hello everyone

Gourmet Burger Kitchen are low-carb friendly. I asked for a burger without the bun and they fill the plate with salad instead.

I love Wagamama. They have a Summer menu and Spring Specials with a whole load of noodle-free dishes, so I will be ordering a Cumin Chicken, or Mandarin & Sesame Chicken Salad and Negima Yakitori or Grilled Asparagus, or my favourite: Chilli Squid from now on.

Kebab shops: meat and salad.

Greasy spoons: pick and choose the carb-free options for an all day breakfast.

Cafés: Can order quiche and salad, but leave the crust. Not ideal, but it's an option.

Pizzeria: Next time I go, I plan on ordering a pizza and piling the toppings high (plus a salad of some sort), then eating everything but the base!

I occasionally go to a fish & chip restaurant that offers a decent portion of salad instead of chips.

Taybarns buffet places are fab. They have a salad bar, a grill area and a carvery area. They are great and very good prices too!

I would find Taybarns difficult, although there is a great buffet range, there is also a huge cake/dessert section. As it's pay once and eat as much as you like, I don't think I'd be able to resist the sweets.

I am eating quite a lot of Indian food, it's often made with a fair bit of cream and Ghee (clarified butter) I have a curry and a veg bhaji of some kind, and just miss out rice and breads.

I have lost my craving for my faves since being on low carb. So, I think when I go there for my sons first birthday next week, I shall be ok x

I too quite like Taybarns - great when there with rest of family - everyone gets what they like! I was there yesterday and had fish/chicken and salad. Partner had a roast dinner, kids pizza/pasta. Puddings not a problem for me - I dont have a sweet tooth.
Old Orleans - I think this is a national chain? have been here in the past and they've been only too happy to substitute the fries for additional stir fry veg and or salad. Smothered chicken was good (chicken breast, bacon with cheese!)
