I'm a scientist and not offended by that last statement because it's unfortunately true.
If you were to say to a room of mechanical engineers that it doesn't matter if you put gasoline, diesel, or jet fuel in any particular machine because "a joule is a joule" you'd be laughed out of the room, however, you say "a calorie is a calorie" to a room of nutritionists and they nod in agreement. It's insane because people in biology related sciences should know more than anyone that that's even less likely to be true for a living thing than a machine!
There's no such thing as a 'calorie receptor protein' because a calorie isn't a tangible thing. It's a unit of measurement.
