Default BG Testing Advice

I'm interested in isolating what specific foods, e.g. Diet Coke, do to my blood sugar. If I want to really get an idea of what Diet Coke is doing to my blood sugar, then should I take a BG reading, drink the coke, and then re-test after 30 minutes. What is the optimum time I should wait for my body to hit its BG peak after a food before re-testing? I'm assuming that different foods spike your BG at different times and the spikes vary in length. I've tested my sugar a lot, but I haven't spent much time trying to determine what my reactions to various foods are. If anybody has some advice on this I'd appreciate it.

This is a tough one for all of us.

If I am interested in seeing what a specific food or combination of foods does to my sugar, I will test before eating, then 1 then 2 then 3 and finally 4 hours after.

I try to trace the curve of BG rise in hourly increments. You could certainly go in 1/2 hour increments. If so, then go at least from before to 2 hours out.

Check out Jenny's site and understand the "normal blood sugar curve" and then you will understand a lot more.

Thanks. I'll check out her site. Yeah, I wish there was some way I could avoid using all those test strips, but I guess you just have to bite the bullet.

Listen - If you have your BG relatively under control "save up" some test strips by NOT testing one day even two and then do a detailed test on the third day.

This is what I do.
