Default Metformin- no weight loss!!!! PCOS

I have been on Metformin for 5 mos. now. No weight loss!!! So Depressing. I need to lose at least 20lbs. I've lowered my carb intake/cal intake quite a bit, no drinking, and increased exercise by 50%. this is very frusrtating!

I have PCOS. I chose not to take any meds, its my personal choice. After a few mos. of Atkins 72, my periods regulated and then I started to see weight loss. Do not despair, just stick w/the program and it will happen. I am not sure what program you are on, but if you stick to a low carb program (Atkins, South Beach, etc.) it will help your PCOS tremendously. Most Low carb programs really help w/PCOS and weight loss..Good Luck and Merry Xmas!

If you have PCOS then as you already know you are probably insulin resistant. You list your plan as your own. . . I have no idea what that means.

For me I had to reduce my carb intake very low in order to lose weight. Metformin alone will not create weight loss it will however help to reduce the insulin resistance.

Default PCOS weight difficulty

Hello Carmarom,
thank you for your thoughtful reply. I have been on many plans and have many years of nutritional guidance and at this point, had to create my own plan to become part of society. the extreme "designer" plans do not allow me to be go forward in the environment that I'm in. I watch my carbs, have reduced carbs and cals dramatically, and have increased exercise as well. Do you think the metformin will not respect anything bu a militant approach? I apologize for my struggles, I've become depressed and frustrated trying so hard and not getting results. I hope you didn't think I was sitting around eating potato chips and drinking beer?

oh- I'm only 16 yrs. old and High School environment and social, prevents a militant adherence to low carb. I do quite well, but not as restrictive as would be ideal.
