Default Suger question?

I'm new to the site and have been reading it for days. I hope this is the right forum for my question. There are so many.

When baking bread are we all sure the sugar doesn't count because it is eaten by the yeast?

I would hate to find something I like and then have to give it up again like the Atkins Bars.

I am not an expert, but did want to bump this post so someone else who knows more can see it! I have heard that the yeast eats the sugar as well! The traces of sugar as mim so I don't see the traces that might survive being an issue. But, then I have the reputation for no sugar period! I don't think it will hurt you! But those Atkins bars...no. I have heard of too many folks stalling on those!

If you're talking about a minimal amount, yes. If 1/4 cup, no.

You don't need to use sugar in bread at all. Just dissolve the yeast in water. It gets fed plenty by whatever starch is in the bread.

I think the bread recipe I use only takes like one tablespoon of sugar so I don't have to worry about that one! Thanks Karen!

Ok! That is great! I almost never cooked until this diet. I know nothing about it. Saturday I bought a bread making machine because the low carb bread here costs so much. I've been trying new recipies with out any luck. lol Mostly I think because I can't find any gluten. I'm going to keep trying.

Thanks so much
Sassy
