Default metformin/glucophage the good and the bad

I wanted to share my experience with this med for pcos.
I started taking it about 4 years ago as i gained almost 200lbs as a result if pcos.
I started with only 125mg per day,a quarter of a pill and upped my dose slowly. I still had uncontrollable diarrhea, but i lost weight with no effort. On 1000mg/day i lost about 60lbs in one year without during. Aa matter of fact i ate lots of barbs and sugary foods cuz i often felt like low blood sugar. After a year the weight loss stopped but i maintained it. After about 2-3 yrs, i stats gaining it back in 5-10lb increments.they were sudden, and i couldn't lose it no matter how much i exercised out what i did. It was depressing. I did get pendent pregnant just before nearly gaining back all the weight. I also developed a huge 20cm ovarian cyst when the metronome stopped working. I had a high risk pregnancy because oh the cyst, which had to be taken out along with one of my ovaries and fallopian tubes. Some of the risks associated with metformine are, increases risk of cervical cancer (i started having abnormal paps almost immediately after starting it), i also had 2 biopsies of my cervix to eliminate cancer, it was mentally draining. Another risk of this med is the inability of being able to absorb b vitamin, folic acid, which raises homocystine levels and increases risk of heart attack. I've now come off metformine, and now my vitamin b12 levels are very low, I'm also anemic, and have to get vit b12 injections monthly for the rest of my life...

Wow, it must have been very scary for you! Things like this are one reason why I resist all medications.

Hopefully low carb will help you!

In hindsight, i would have come off it when the weight started coming back on, and at least maintained it with low carb.it is good for those who want to get pregnant. They are also purposing making it mandatory to take a b vitamin along with metformin.
