I've been doing South Beach for over a year. So far so good. My doctor suggested the low carb diet, but didn't think Atkins was the best fit for me.

Atkins has been the best for me, and just a few days on it jump-started my period! As long as I don't cheat, I have a period every month and my symptoms stay under control. It's been such a blessing!!

Default Which Diet?

I've also had success with Atkins.

As far as other PCOS symptoms, I still shave my face weekly. Facial hair does not grow as fast or as thick as it did prior to Atkins, but it does still grow.

I've had PCOS for 5 years. I did Atkins right after I was diagnosed...I went from 187 to 163...where I stalled off and quit eating low carb. I take Metformin, and I didn't regain the weight I lost, I just didn't lose any more when I stopped low carbing. I'm tired of being this heavy, so I re-started induction yesterday.

I can't stick to South Beach, so I'm doing Atkins. Counted carbs for year and 1/2 with Diabetic carb counting. It was too easy to over sugar.

I'm 3 years in the works on trying to have babies. Sucks to watch your friends either going through infertility with you or getting pregnant without wanting too.

I did Atkins at first and it didn't do much for me. I read the Atkins book again and found out I had to go even lower in carbs (for me, under 10 grams) to lose weight. I found out about the meat & eggs way of eating and I've been doing it ever since.
I think all low carb diets are good for women with pcos but you have to find the one that works for you ;-)
Oh, forgot to mention exercise is important too!

Two things seem to work well for women with PCOS - reducing carbohydrate to a level where insulin is stabilized and no longer elevated and interfering with your hormones, and being somewhat active to further boost insulin sensitivity with the dietary modifications.

It's important to find a diet you can live with and that you're responsive to metabolically.....some find dropping carbs to below 100g works for them - others need to restrict carbohydrates significantly, below 30g or 20g or sometimes even 10g - so it helps to be open to different ideas about what your particular situation may require to allow your metabolism to heal and things to turn around - which does take some time too.

Are you currently treating your PCOS with anything? I take 500mg of metformin twice a day and my periods are coming every month!
