Talking Hello, My name is Jessica and I'm a Carb Addict************

Hellooooooooooo!!!!!! I am a newbee but I am sooooooo GLAD I've found a place to vent.

Now I don't feel like I'm the Only one doing the ATKIN'S DIET!!!

I am 3 weeks into it and going strong. (15 pound weight loss, yeah!!!!)

I've elected to stay on Induction for another 2 weeks beings that I have a considerable amount to lose. I love this Diet but the Only thing I'm battling right now is the Sugar Cravings. I take L Glutamine to help with the Sugar Cravings but I have to try some new foods I think, you know start rewarding myself. I haven't done that, I've been sooooooooo strict on myself.

I 'm going tomorrow to buy some Atkin's Cheesecakes

Well , I'll see everyone around the Boards!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck..

Default salt?

these 2 tips might help with the sweet cravings.........
place a small amount of salt on your tongue.
dissolve about 1 tsp. of baking soda in a glass of warm tap water and just rinse your mouth out. don't swallow!!!

these two methods work because they tend to stimulate the hypothalamus gland, causing the papillae to become active and secrete saliva, this will eliminate the craving for sweets.

Default congrats!

It sounds like U are doing really well. Since I am in maintainence phase I find some times if I have eaten too many carbs then I crave something sweet. In that case I take extra chromium and it seems to help. I make my own cheese cake which is awesome and so times when I want something sweet I reach for something legal. Also make sure U incorperate exercise with this WOL because it will help to boost your metabolism.

I find that if I eat anything with sweetner during the day, I crave sweets. So I save that for the last snack of the day. Seems to work.

Thumbs up Sweets

I have been doing that, too - saving the sweets til the end of the day.

I allow myself to have a root beer with a splash of cream only if I have drank all the water I am supposed to have that day. Or I have a SF jello w/cream. My new favorite dessert!

Welcome Jessica, and Congrats on 15 lbs weight loss in 3 weeks!! Awesome!

I have only been here a few weeks myself, but I have found this to be a wonderful source of both information and motivation, and I hope you do too!

Jessica - on page 225 of DANDR, Dr. Atkins lists the carbohydrate increments - ....

So as you move up the carbohydrate ladder (as he puts it) ... if you increase 5g carb per day, every 7 days... this list will help you add those items... so that week 1 after induction you go to 25 g carb a day by adding something like:

Example: 15 almonds = 4 g
1 cup cauliflower = 5 g
1/2 cup spinach = 5 g

there's more on the list, check it out.

Default hi Jessica

Remember to set different goals, my 1st one was to get into a pair of jeans I hadnt wore for a couple years, then was to get down to 160 by july 1st then to over the summer get to my goal weight of 145. I even revamped that cause I have weighed under 140 now for over 2 months. Another goal I wanted to acheive was to join a Jazz dance class. Well I did it!!! In fact it is quite an intense one where I will be in 4 competitions this spring. So just keep working at it..U will get there!!

Talking Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Gwil, actually my first goal is to fit into these jeans I wore when I was 155lbs. Even though that is not my goal weight that will be a great achievement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will know by those jeans I am at the half way mark. Ya know????????

Also, my next goal is to start dance class again at about 130lbs. I am also a Jazz Dancer, Congrats on your Competitions next year!!!!!!!! That is sooooooo awesome.

I feeling a little down right now, I am having relationship problems and I just want to run to the Food like I used to. Pizza, French Fries, Cookies, Doughnuts, ect............. Well I don't mean to sound so Gloom but everyone says I'm losing weight but I don't feel like it's coming off fast enough. I used to be in such good shape and seeing me like this now is a real turn off in my eyes.

Also, i ran into an old classmate from highschool the otherday and she said, "Wow, Jessica, why did you get so Fat???????"
That really hurt me and now I just feel like running and Hiding. I sometimes wonder why I'm doing all this Dieting, Sorry, I'm like this, I will get through this.

Thanx 4 letting me vent......................

Jessica

Clever girl to come to the board, and not the fridge.

You can't eat and type at the same time, I always say.

Dig in your heels with determination - you are being tested.
