Question Yoga for a beginner and err big person

I went to the YMCA to check out a yoga class and was very intimidated. I felt I was the biggest one there by at least 75lbs. I really need to build strength in my core. My posture has really changed due to my muscles strengthening incorrectly (My back is way too tight causing my bum to stick out) I do abdomimals but they only do so much)

What I need help is this: Is there a beginning user friendly for big people yoga video? Help!

Hey Lessara..

You might want to skim through the titles here.. Amazon has a lot of them. Also, if you don't get a good response here I'd suggest checking in Dana's Journal. I know she has a lot of yoga DVD's.

I use this one and am happy with it..

However, exercise is not my reason for doing it. I also think this one is "intermediate" (I look hilarious trying to get in some positions - lol) But it is a high quality one, and in the privacy of my own home very enjoyable.

Good luck. Take Care. And cheers!

I really like the Wai Lana yoga videos. She has 3 in her "easy series". Easy Beginners, Easy toning, and Relaxation. She also has an intermediate and "fun challenge" series. You may be able to find them at your local library. That way you can check out those, or any other yoga videos before spending the money on them.
Also, I have Comcast On-Demand and I get four episodes of the Wai Lana TV program on demand. Or you can tape her show. It's usually on once a week on public television (pbs).
You also may not want to do inverted asanas if they cause you discomfort or you have heart problems.
Just take it easy, do the asana to the best of your flexibility/ability and it will get easier. Dont push it beyond your capabilities or you'll get frustrated.
Good luck!

I have a "Yoga for Weight Loss" DVD that shows 3 or 4 different levels for all the poses. One of the instructors is fairly large. I think it does a good job of explaining the poses and showing modifications depending on your fitness level.

Thank you all so much! I'm hoping to strengthen my weaker muscles and losen my too tight muscles. Is this a fair way to view what yoga can do?
