I like Bikman as well. This is an excellent review, and the paper goes into detail about blood lipids as valid biomarkers, primarily LDL-C, and how a low carb diet (LCD) can help people avoid the dangers of high triglycerides and low HDL. The comparison of reactions to lipid profiles between people on low fat diets compared to those on LCDs are extremely valuable to anyone concerned about long-term health and the impact of a well-designed lifestyle in support of good health. Bottom line, and something that's been frequently observed and discussed on this forum is that those who follow a LCD typically have a different lipid profile than those following other ways of eating. This is important, especially when one is dealing with physicians who tend to think that biomarkers believed to indicate good and poor health are the same for everyone. Not true. A whole statin industry is based on this belief system, and with the revenues realized from the sale of these pills, there is no incentive to discover the truth.
Thanks, Bawdy. This is one I've saved and bookmarked for continued reference.
